Narrow gusset in knickers

I've always bought M&S knickers but lately am finding the gussets far too narrow. Can anyone recommend decent knickers that have decent coverage but don't look like "granny" knickers. I'm a size 8-10 but I don't want thongs. I want proper coverage to bend down gardening in without constantly pulling them from where they've ridden up.

For the ladies who commented with incontinence issues did you ever try one of the pelvic floor exercisers, and if so, did it help?

Bon Marche ! I like them anyway -can’t stand the narrow gusset thing and need a high waist too -otherwise they just roll down from my large stomach !

I’m quite relieved to read this thread. There was I thinking that my in inbetweens has just got wider. To put it politely.

I stopped buying knickers and bought the shorts style instead, they are similar to Spanx control but very lightweight.

I wear shorts too, so much better, more comfy, better fit

Minibookworm I’m a 14 and find large very comfortable.

Matalan - 3 comfy pairs in different colours - £8, and they wash well!

I always used to buy M & S Hi leg knickers but I always buy a size up. I've recently changed to the shorts type and find them far more comfortable and they actually stay round by bum! lol

Another vote for Sloggis! I buy the largest size available and they are so comfortable - don't drop down or cut in anywhere.

Wirapa ladies, can you advise on sizing. I am a size 12-14 and seem to fall between a medium and large. How has the sizing been for you?

Don't have a gusset problem, length, width or breadth.

I like high legged, no VSP fom Tesco.

Having had 2x C sections and a hysterectomy cut on the same bikini scar, resulting in an "apron".
Gussets aren't a problem but where the top comes too, I hate waist/ full knickers.

Each to their own💕

I use Anyday from John lewis. No frills or lace but very comfortable and not expensive,They wash well too.

Highly recommend these from Matalan. Available in high leg version also. They are very comfortable and wash well.

The Flexfit high rise shorts style seems to have adequate gussetage, I find.

(I like the word gusset! It's delightfully old fashioned and can only be exactly what it is!)

Does anyone find the same thing with pajama bottoms? There is no gusset, and seem to cut me in half. That's why I prefer a nightie, but M&S ones are so ugly now.

Yes! This!! Just so annoying. I’m thinking of buying men’s pyjama bottoms

Greciangirl Tue 21-Jan-25 14:56:13

Yes, I’m very disappointed with M&S knickers.
I also favoured the midi style but when I bought them again,, they didn’t resemble the old style at all.
Also, the gussets Were far too narrow.

Why did they have to change them?
The material used was also poor quality and several pairs frayed around the legs,

Will have to try different brand.
But I also prefer a larger gusset to accommodate pant liners.

mrsgreenfingers56 Tue 21-Jan-25 14:55:11

Well glad not just me then. Bought some recently and such a skinny gusset!

KnittyNannie Tue 21-Jan-25 14:26:53

I’ve made my own knickers for several years now. I can adapt the pattern to my liking - double height waistband, etc. They are so comfortable! All my bought ones were consigned to the dustbin.

tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/browse/lingerie/knickers/c:840376/brands:sloggi/ Sloggis are brilliant. I like midis, but you can get maxis. A bit more expensive but worth it.

Bilbodog Tue 21-Jan-25 13:46:17

Sloggis all the way here!

Wheezywinnie Tue 21-Jan-25 13:33:38

Also knickers with the stitching a little higher too! Nothing worse than the seam in the wrong place. So uncomfortable!

GrannyBettie Tue 21-Jan-25 13:19:14

I've just bought Stripe and Stare - Gogo59 and I must say they are very comfortable. On special offer too.

Janiepops Tue 21-Jan-25 13:18:19

I’ve started buying ladies undershorts. I feel much safer now, plus, if I have to lay on Drs couch and lift my dress up for a ‘tummy feel,’ shorts are a great coverall for wandering / overhanging pads!

missdeke Tue 21-Jan-25 13:17:48

I recently bought some Tesco knickers that looked exactly the same as the ones I normally buy from M&S the only difference is that the Tesco ones have much wider gussets.

But with the period pants for oops moments do you squelch and put on fresh ones or do you not notice any squelch? Asking for a friend.

Oh a minute drop and I get sore so definitely change immediately. If you wish you can always buy a cheap mini liner and stick on top if it is just a drop or two. That works too, but I am always petrified of smelling, so to be safe I change.
