Gaping dress

I would try making the button holes smaller, a little at both ends.

I’d change the buttons, assuming you can find slightly bigger ones that you like.* Buttonholes are a fiddle!

*BTW an online co. called Totally Buttons has a massive selection, I’ve used them more than once and delivery is v quick.

There maybe a point in the dress which takes a bit of strain when you sit- usually the waist causing the buttons to fail. Smaller buttonhole and maybe a hook and eye on the inside of the waist seam if there is one to avoid pulling.

I put poppers on strategic parts of my dresses, which always gape at the same spot.

I have a dress that does this, my sewing skills are non existent... It has a couple of safety pins either side of the badly behaved button and those safety pins have survived a good 7 years of washing, where my sewing wouldn't last a week lol
