Hi
Last year we bought an expensive Harrison Spinks mattress, just recently about 3:4 mths I’ve been waking up in the night with a sensation in my thigh when lay on my side
It’s that intense that it wakes me up
It’s not necessary a pain but it’s very uncomfortable enough to wake me up

I’m thinking mattress is too hard although it’s a medium firm mattress
So I was thinking of buying a mattress topper to make it a but cushioned but I don’t want one that will make me feel hot
I suffer with that already

Has anyone bought one ?
Why did you buy one ?
What make & how much pls

I use a 4 inch thick memory foam topper on top of a quality mattress, The safety grab rail and the sheets all tuck under the 4 inch thick topper. I had the bed legs sawn shorter so it's easy to get into bed with the extra thickness of mattress,

Oh yes.
Springs and memory foam all within it.

MissAdventure

Why don't new mattresses have the topper that comes with them inside the mattress, though. 🤔

I think the current hybrid mattresses have this.

You can buy extra deep sheets, to go over the topper, that's over the mattress, that sits on the bed... grin

Thank you Ladies 😀
Few products there to think about

I didn’t want one with a mattress topper
Reason being - you can hardly find fitted sheets with a very large depth
I hate it when they havnt enough depth to took under mattress
We bought M&S last time £44 and to me feels harsh
The mattress has. Summer/winter topping so you can turn mattress over.

Post menopause aches 🤷‍♀️

My mattress had dodgy springs which were sticking in to me.
I couldn't really afford a new one at that time, so I bought a memory foam topper instead. It's brilliant. I wish I could remember where I bought it. It wasn't very expensive, about £40 I think. It sits on the mattress, under the sheet, so I never stick to it. It's only fault is that it moves around a bit and makes little wavy areas. But I can't feel them . Every day I have to straighten it a bit. I tried those elastic corners but they don't work but kept pinging off so I removed them.
Anyway, I no longer have springs sticking into me.

I have a Dormeo Octaspring zoned topper. I no longer have uncomfortable hips, and their free pillow means no more stiff neck or sore ears. I have not found that it makes me hot, and I am a hot body! The topper is comprised of memory foam formed into 'springs', which give good ventilation.

Same here, the Panda sorted things for me, on top of a good but a bit too firm for me mattress.

OldFrill Thu 18-Jul-24 07:51:23

I suspect they are all similar within the same price range.
I bought Panda, super fast delivery, 100 day free return, claims sustainable, etc etc washable cover
Very, very impressed and very comfortable - sorted my night time hip pain. Needs 24 hours to expand when it arrives, smells slightly but that disappears after 24 hours. It doesn't make me hot, in fact cooler than my mattress.

We bought one for the futon that I bought years ago as a spare bed (bad idea). I bought a topper, only quite a thin one and fairly cheap. My niece slept on it last week and, without any prompting, declared it was the most comfortable bed she had slept in for ages.
Now the futon has had a stay of execution.

I use a memory foam topper, purchased from Amazon, it’s got some sort of cooling gel inside, it’s super comfy and not at all hot.

My hideously expensive mattress has a built in memory foam topper, and we have supplemented that with a mattress topper, I think it was from Dunelm, because the mattress was too firm for comfort even though it was labelled medium.
We don’t find it too hot.

Can highly recommend the pander topper, think it has 10 yr guarantee, bought three now.

Primrose53 Wed 17-Jul-24 22:25:37

I’m surprised your mattress did not have a built in mattress topper. I bought the same make as you last year and looked at loads and all those in that price bracket came with built in toppers.

It is very comfy. My only complaint is although you can turn the mattress sideways, you can’t turn it over completely or the topper would be underneath! 🤣

I bought this topper from Argos and it is bliss. I got it when I had painful hips and was waiting for hip replacements. I also bought one I could cut up and took a piece of it with me whenever I stayed in a youth hostel or guest house. It looks like an eggbox when unrolled. I've never felt too warm using it.

As you can see Poppy they’ve been bought for a number of reasons. Some give a new lease of life to an old mattress, some add a layer of softness to a firm mattress (that’s why I bought mine) and some may help those who have aches and pains. They can be used on sofas, if someone needs to sleep there, or even just on their own, directly on the floor/carpet.

I think I got mine online from Debenhams. Allegedly half price, so around £45.

Mine was a cheap one from Dunelm.
About £20?
Works well.

I had what you may have. GTPS.
I had to have about 5 sessions of physio.
Have to continue with the exercises at home for a while.

Poppyred Wed 17-Jul-24 19:43:47

Sorry it I don’t understand why people need a mattress topper. Is it because there’s a problem with your mattress?

Harris27 Wed 17-Jul-24 19:31:45

I’ve got an Emma topper cost £300 but I love it I’ve got a very bad hip and still working and was desperate for sleep. It’s done the trick hasn’t taken the hip pain away but I’m getting a better nights sleep. Very comfy.

NotAGran55 Wed 17-Jul-24 19:27:06

We have John Lewis toppers on all beds and they don’t feel hot.
£100 ish if I remember correctly.

Aldom Wed 17-Jul-24 18:49:15

Bought, not brought!! Grrr, predictive text. grin

NotSpaghetti Wed 17-Jul-24 18:48:30

We bought one for our "spare bed" - it was from Dunelm and wasn't cheap - but made an OK mattress more comfortable- and not hot.

I'd have a look at them in Dunelm.

Aldom Wed 17-Jul-24 18:48:02

I have a Devon Wool mattress topper.
It cost £100 about seven years ago.
It's very comfortable and doesn't make me feel hot.
I brought the topper because my mattress was much too firm.
I've since purchased a mattress that is less firm, but I still use the topper.
Devon Wool products get good reviews.

We bought one when my husband was suffering with back pain. It lasted one night i couldn't move on it felt like i was stuck to it and it was hot. We gave it away.
