Help, I need some fashion advice.
I've just bought a Boden dress in the sale. It was a bargain, was £90 reduced to under £30.
It's red Jersey, long sleeved, paisley pattern.
I bought in readiness for autumn/winter. I have never bought Boden before as so pricey. I do love the quality and the brightness. I usually wear dresses as find comfy.
I'm late 60s, size 14ish and 5ft 10ins.
My question is, am I too old for bright red? I don't want to look as 'mutton'.
However, I do love fashion and try to make an effort.
All advice gratefully received

It’s a beautiful dress and a lovely colour. If you feel comfortable in it then wear it with style and a smile.

That's a lovely dress.
I've got a few Boden pieces, all sale purchases as Boden is pricy.
If you're worried about the bright colour just remember our lovely late Queen who just shone in beautiful bright colours that she wore.

Of course you’re not too old to wear red. You wear it and enjoy it. 😊

I bought the bottom red dress for my husband's 80th birthday in February. I love it, it's very flattering. I am 77 and look better in bright clothes.

I hope he looked good in it 😂

Colourful is superb!

I wish older women wore more colour. Love red and also coral. That dress is lovely.

Black is a colour that 'kills' me. Makes me look as if I am the corpse at a funeral, I am also judicious in wearing white. it does not flatter me. Autumnal colours from cream to darkest brown through autumn reds, browns and yellows are the colours that most flatter my colouring and complexion.

You’re never too old for bright colours . Wear what you want and what makes you feel good

Norah Mon 22-Jul-24 13:07:17

Any colour that flatters at any age. For me white is a flattering colour as is black, apparently not everyone agrees, thus choices.

Wear what you wish.

Never looked at culture vulture. Will certainly look. Thanks M0nica

What has age got to do with it?

I am 80 and I wear bright colours all the time including a lovely cherry red tunic, bought from Culture Vulture about 4 years ago.

My summer wardrobe ncludes sunshine yellow, scarlet, and peach.

I really like the second dress, the red one which Joseann showed.
It’s the sort of style I like, dresses with some shape and a defined waist.
I’m small so loose clothes just swamp me.

I’ve got a few Boden dresses, but I’m now tempted to have a look !

It sounds nice. I think older people should wear more colours than beige. You could always tone it down with paler tights or scarf.

This one?
Nice.

That’s lovely, Nana56, especially in Autumn/Winter.

Wear it with swagger 💃

Love that, swagger.

That’s a pretty dress nana56. As NotAGran says, if it’s the right shade of red for your skin tone, wear it with pride.

NotAGran55 Sat 20-Jul-24 18:55:05

Provided the shade of red suits you then go for it.

When I used to be over 19st and a 32 never wore bright colours . I thought black and navy hide my fat bits.

I lost 7st over 5 years as I realised it was a marathon not a sprint to losses my blubber.

Now a size 16. I wear bright colours but not yellow as I look awful in it . I am 66 and love bright patterns ..I wear trousers which I never thought I could and wear them all the time . My favourite shop is Seasalt and have 9 of their tunics and 2 of there coats . I buy in the sales as they have brilliant clothes but pricey for me. I shop at M&S ,Tu,George and Peacocks .

When I was a 32 only wore black knickers . Now the brighter the better Always wore brightly coloured bras from M &S.

My dad always said no such word as can't . So wear what you like if you feel great you will look great.

Of course you aren't too old! I think we need some colour as we get older. I never used to wear red, but now I've got a red maxi dress that I wear all the time.

Nana56 Sat 20-Jul-24 18:41:48

Thanks for all your kind comments. Yes Joseann it's the bottom one

HowVeryDareYou2 Sat 20-Jul-24 18:33:35

If you like it and it's comfortable, wear it. A person is never too old to wear red - or any other colour

JamesandJon33 Sat 20-Jul-24 18:32:05

Never too old Nana56 You can wear what you like, when you like and where you like. It’s a privilege of getting on. I’m sure you will look fantastic.
