Shorts or not?

Please wear them, I do in the summer time if very warm. My legs are good with all the walking and cycling I do.

That's the point.
Those who care don't matter, and those that matter don't care.
Treat your legs, give them some air - think how they have served you all these years.

It’s absolutely fine to wear shorts no matter what age you are, it’s about being comfortable and there’s no such thing as mutton dressed as lamb anymore, that went out with my grandma years ago and I’m 67, no one cares as long as you re comfy 👍🏻

Just wear your shorts and releax there is always someone bigger and older on holidays you will probably never see them again. Get your legs out now and start your tan enjoy

I just find it all a bit sad that so many people are so worried about what others may think of them, especially at this stage in life.

Grandma70s agree with you , I wouldn’t personally wear shorts . Just don’t like the look of them. I prefer pedal pushers think they look more feminine. Yes some people don’t care what they look like do they and each to their own. But for me it’s a no and I’m slim.

One of the things that stays in my mind is meeting my exes mum, and her saying "I'm still as fat as ever".

How sad that was utmost in her mind, when she was 80 odd, looking great, and getting about.

I guess I have good legs for 73, reasonably toned and no varicose veins, but I only wear shorts in the garden. Why? Because I do not look my best in shorts, my knees are saggy and my skin-tone uneven, so why would I wish to display that part of my body? Shorts are not especially comfortable - a skirt/dress is better, and more elegant, and can still be worn with trainers, for walking distances, these days. But each to their own, and good on your lovely grandson DollyD!

I’ve always hated my legs (short, fat, pale, now with thread veins!) so no way would I wear shorts. My legs are only ever aired when I go swimming. However, if I had shapely legs I wouldn’t hesitate to wear shorts, at any age.

I still wear shorts in summer at the beach and around the garden but probably wouldn’t wear them into town

Of course there is no hard and fast rule, but for me personally, I wouldn't wear them myself nowadays as my legs aren't as slim as they used to be.

I see plenty of old men wearing shorts in the summer, not just at the seaside or hiking, but walking around towns and cities. No one bats an eyelid and I bet the TV don't worry out what they look like. If you are comfortable wearing shorts at a length that suits your legs, then just wear them. I do recall that some posh hotels and religious buildings abroad sometimes insist on being covered up, but cross that bridge at the time, if you find that to be the case.

I wear shorts on holiday and about the house and garden when it’s warm. As our house holds the heat, and when working from home no one sees me, even if they did I don’t give two hoots about what others think. Culottes never again I used to own a pair of light green linen culottes, when I first started work in the training dept of a charted accountant firm, and wore them one day and one of the trainees decided to play a prank on me, by stapling each leg around the leg of my chair. He said he’d dropped something that rolled in the area of my chair. When I stood up and when to step away the chair came with me😂😂

I'm 67 and wear shorts if the weather is good. Mine are just above the knee but I wouldn't wear shorter

Heck yes, why not?! Find some you really like and flash your lovely legs while giving them a nice airing!
I bought a pair of soft denim cotton ones last year, bright cerise pink, my family were quite shocked at the colour. Lmao. I ended up not wearing them because, although they were my size, they were quite adept at going places they ought not, so I left them! Had they been a bit slacker I'd have relished getting the air on my legs!
Anyway, didn't you say you'd be away? Perfect time to test out clothes you might feel being a bit risqué before wearing them in front of the people who might see you every day, apart from your family!
Anyway, I do hope you have a lovely time away.

I've seen some appalling sights of men in shorts. I saw one today. Most of us winced when he walked in to the cafe! I'm an equal opportunities deplorer of adults in shorts

My sentiments exactly. Most people over the age of forty look dreadful in shorts, whatever their shape or size. I have not owned a pair in decades because they do not suit me. I have lipoedema, which means my legs and hips are my worst feature. I don't want to look at them, so should I inflict them on anyone else? I feel cooler and much more comfortable in cotton dresses, skirts or loose, flowing trousers in hot weather. As for those quoting their mothers that nobody is looking at them - well, sorry but this is only true up to a point. We all notice people in inappropriate clothing, in the same way that we notice someone who is beautifully dressed.

Legs still okay but nowadays I would wear shorts only at the seaside.
I love a skirt when it's warm enough to go bare-legged.

Agree with Mabon 1. Crops are a no no for me. Much prefer shorts that come to just above the knee.

I wear knee length shorts , well just below the knee and I wear them for golf m my legs are ok from the knee down but I would never wear short shorts except for the garden.

If just cut two pairs of jeans that I didn’t like the style of the legs. So cut them to just above the knee about an inch look perfect and will be ideal for cycling around centre parks with grandchildren. There is no age limit to shorts wear what comfortable for the situation DollyD. Have a great time x

I didn’t wear shorts for many years even though I have quite good legs. This year I wore 2 pairs on holiday as I thought it was daft to not make the most of the glorious weather and the freedom of bare legs. I’m 75 and noticed other older women wearing shorts, some with good legs and some with varicose veins and other imperfections. As long as you’re happy and comfortable you should wear them. I wouldn’t wear them out at home though. I’m also more inclined to go bare armed on holiday but not at home.

It's not the knees in my case but the AA route map of blue thread veins. I hate them and don't want to see them, let alone have anyone else see them!
