Phew Kgee and thanks for giving us such a good update

I changed my mind. The M2105 is only £125 and is very likely to be plastic at that price

Thanks so much everybody for your help. The machine is now fixed! While I was online googling, my husband - retired engineer - switched the power off and used the manual control to raise the needle.
I removed the needle which had been put in wrong way round and it’s working!
I’m so relieved I don’t have to pay for a repair.

Can’t thank you all enough for all the help there are lots of lovely kind people on here ❤️

Unclear opening post btw. `I threaded it up` could refer to the old machine or the borrowed machine

I routinely oil my three machines, two are vintage and the third is modern. Every 8 hours of sewing at a max, I also clean out the bobbin race each time I have used two spools of thread

A modern singer does need oiling

Modern sewing machines don't always need oiling now, the parts are plastic. Check the manual first.

If it has not been used for a while, it could well need oiling. See if you can take the side piece off that covers the needle bar. Mine (bernina) is easy to do, oil the needle bar and wiggle the wheel back and forth gently

Also take the cover off the feed dogs and take the needle off altogether. Examine the area below the feed dogs with a torch to see if thread has been caught. Same in the needle bar area too. Sewing machine moving parts all need regular oiling or they can seize up

Yes, utube is your friend here. Is the machine a computer model? If so have to tried the old turning it off and on again trick.

There are a lot of YouTube videos on this problem.

Have you unscrewed the metal plate covering the bobbin casing.

I borrowed my granddaughter’s machine to do some alterations as my ancient Singer had died. I threaded it up and lowered needle to catch bobbin thread and needle is stuck. Cannot raise it using handle. I downloaded manual online but no information on releasing jammed needle.
Can anyone suggest anything else I can try?
