Apologies if this should be on another thread.

A close family member has recently had a stroke. I’m visiting her soon and don’t want to go empty handed. She is in her mid-40s and sadly is unable to move her limbs on one side. It is her non-dominant hand that has been affected.
Can anyone suggest something I could take as a gift, please? She already has plenty of books. I’ll be travelling by train, so it can’t be anything too large or heavy.
I should be grateful for any suggestions.

I definitely would not take books/ magazines as my hubby ( 6 years post stroke ) can't turn the pages and hold the book , I would recommend getting a
Tablet pillow available from Amazon , it is a foam pillow that you can rest your book,/magazine / mobile phone/ kindle on it sits on your lap or a tray and has been very useful. They cost between £10 & £20 pound . Perhaps a lap tray the type with a bean bag underneath. Or how about a nice Shawl to put on it when gets cold perhaps the type that fits over the shoulder with pockets either side if that makes sense, my DH temp rises and falls quite quickly and getting in and out of a cardigan isn't always easy.

I think the idea of a pretty shawl as suggested is nice, it will be light to carry and am sure much appreciated when weather gets cooler.

Another item we have found really useful is a grabber stick , the type that you can pick things up with either off the floor or from a high shelf , tbh one of the best things we were given, a friend was emptying her mother's house and brought it over for us. I use it as much as DH .

Another idea is a Dicem mat, it’s made of sticky plastic and holds things steady. My husband found his very useful for plate or his phone or even a magazine.

Thank you all very much for your kind suggestions. They are much appreciated.

Can I just say how sorry I am about your family member, just goes to show that younger people can also suffer from strokes.
I hope that with help she can restore some use in the limbs presently immobile or adapt to her life successfully.

Thank you, Babs03
They can, unfortunately. She is in a rehab unit now.
It’s all so unfair, but life is, isn’t it?
