Our old bed had a topper which was manmade fibres, it seemed very good at first but then flattened and 'dipped'. The wool one has stayed fairly in shape so far.
I'm sure your respiratory Consultant knows more than me, but the only types of duvet or pillow which have caused a reaction with members of my family who have asthma/lung problems have been down or down and feather.
I too recommend the wool room. I bought myself a light classic double and I love it. It’s not “lofty”, if you know what I mean, but it’s so cozy. I don’t overheat anymore. I have a medium too that I bought for the colder nights but I’m not sure when I’m going to need it.
My DH has Baavet and has recommended it to other people, we also have one on the guest bed and they loved it. I get very hot in my bed and rarely need anything more than a 3.5 tog or a sheet.
They have a sale on at the moment. You can get a medium weight king size for under £100 ( but only just!) We like our wool duvet but have had it for years and can’t remember where I got it from.
Our pillows, duvets and mattress covers are from these people. They're not cheap but the quality is excellent. They have sales and offer discounts quite often if you keep an eye on the website.
Following lung problems, my respiratory consultant has suggested that I should get a wool duvet. I've been researching - there are various UK-based companies using British wool, but which is best? Prices vary from the 'gosh' to 'what, how much?’ Have any other gransnetters invested in a wool duvet? I looked on the John Lewis website, but their only wool duvet is Romanian. I'd like to support British farmers if I can. Recommendations, please?
