Anyone noticed that their skin seems ‘thinner’ ?

Has anyone else noticed that they have thinning skin? I knocked myself against the dining room chair the other day and took a chunk out of my arm, the previous week I knocked into the catch on the door and that took a chunk out of my other arm. I think I will have to start wearing long sleeved tops in the summer next year.

I can also see the bones of my hands through my skin and my blood vessels!

This in particular is freaking me out!

Why not try using collagen powder, I add a heaped spoonful to my coffee each morning. It is good for skin, hair, nails and my skin isn;t any thinner and I'm 67.
I've also been having collagen facials since just before 50.

It's never too late to start.

Everyone getting older has thinner skin, no matter what creams one uses, however genes play a huge part.

Come on ladies. What is this magic cream? I too have thin skin both literally and over sensitive!

Yes, I think it's an age thing. I think collagen levels start to diminish as you age. My skins proper crappie now. X

Moisturise, moisturise and moisturise again. The worst bit of skin to get thin as you age are the pads on the bottoms of your feet. I seem to feel every bit of pavement through my shoes these days and I am constantly getting into some wonderful poses to get the hard skin off my feet. I would really like a good pair of thick soled shoes plus to lose any excess weight because it bears down on my feet.

It is the skin on my legs that is so thin. I moisturise every day but it is still flaky. I am loathe to exfoliate as that causes it to bleed.

My skin is not noticable thinner yet, but it has always been sensitive, so maybe I am reaping the benefit of all those past years of having to be careful! or perhaps I am just lucky.

Yes, skin gets thinner, as does hair on our heads, but a well-balanced diet, and no fat-free this and that, unless you doctor insists goes a long way to preventing skin trouble.

Being allergic to cosmetics and perfumes I would advise against moisturises - I believe they create a need, rather than solve a problem.

The Bain of my life skin wise is spider veins on my legs. They look so ugly. I used to have nice legs when younger!

Me too, never had them before last year and they came with a vengeance, don't think I'll ever wear a swimsuit again now!
Like others have said I also bruise very easily nowadays.

I 'bruised' and my father too - skin like an onion. BUT since taking collagen (a certain pricey brand) my skin is more 'like other people's'.

Awful isn't it? I have bruises if I brush against something, and they take three weeks to disappear.

Me too, I am rarely without a bruise or broken skin somewhere, usually on my arms. I moisturise but tbh it makes little difference, gardening usually results in some injury and my terrier seems to have very sharp claws so frequently catches my skin. It's a pain isn't it?

NanTheWiser Tue 03-Sept-24 16:34:07

Yep, me too! Bruises appear at random, with no idea how they occurred, and thin skin which tears very easily (gardening is the main culprit for that). I’m 77.

Certain medications can cause thinning of the skin and it also comes with advancing age too.
I bruise as soon as the phlebotomist puts her gloves on; a slight knock against a firm surface and I look like I've been beaten.

I'm the same AGAA4! Any tiny knock and I get a bruise. When they took the needle out of my hand after an op, the back of my hand was purple. My granddaughter once told me my hands looked like chicken skin grin grin

I always have a bruise somewhere on my arms and hands. The least little knock and a bruise arrives. I'd like to have plump hands but mine are skinny and I can see the tendons.
I suffer with eczema so have to moisturise with a thick cream twice a day.

crazyH Tue 03-Sept-24 14:21:19

Btw I am ‘small’ on top

crazyH Tue 03-Sept-24 14:18:51

The skin on my hands has definitely thinned but I am pleased to report, my décolletage is like that of a teenager. So, I like to show it off, by wearing as low a neckline as is decently possible 😂

Baggs

I've always been able to see blood vessels in the backs of my hands through the skin. Also in my lower arms and upper chest and on my feet. Might it be hand tendons rather than bones you're seeing, Oops?

Oh! I do hope so!

I shall now think of my skin as ‘Delicate’ rather than thin, thank you Shinamae

My freckles are turning into age spots as well…….

Age is the gift that keeps on giving, however, it’s better than the alternative

Yes, thin skin is the future. Losing weight as you age is also a mixed blessing. It may have health benefits but skin loses is elasticity too, it won't shrink with the rest of you but hang in saggy wrinkles.

yogitree Tue 03-Sept-24 13:08:47

Yes me. I am 69 and the veins in my hands are dark blue/green and easily spotted, like a map of roads! The skin on my forearms is thinning with age spots and every few days, I get a new 'eruption' of burst blood vessels like a large bruise showing up! One fades, and another one appears! I also bruise very easily and my skin breaks if knocked. Ah the joys!

Babs03 Tue 03-Sept-24 13:02:51

My hands look really old, liver spots and thinner skin, is not nice, but hey ho, am glad to have lived this long, neither of my parents did.
I also get bruised more easily and chunks taken out of me if I bang into something.
And my hair which used to be so thick and wavy is now so much thinner.

lorna28 Tue 03-Sept-24 12:32:52

My skin has definitely lost its elasticity on my arms and chest and I do seem to bruise at the slightest knock. I've started to use small weights to exercise my arms and strengthen my upper body. I've only been doing it for 3 weeks. Hopefully I will see and feel an improvement in a while.

Yes! I’m only 65 and my skin has really changed, much dryer, much thinner and I always bruised easily anyhow!
