What to do with a wet and windy weekend

I have been sorting through bags and boxes of Christmas decorations acquired over the years. Our local charity shop will be very well stocked after my visit mid week.

Following on from my post about what to do on a rainy day.
I decided to play a guessing game with my granddaughters. I faced timed them showed them the record player and asked if they knew what it was 🤣. They didn’t have a clue. I explained what it was called and the 10 year old said oh I have heard of one. We then went on to show them how music was played before Alexa . They were very interested and surprised. I will be crying next time they visit as they are sure to want to use it. I feel the scratches now. Hehe

Well, the fruit for the Christmas cake is soaking in rum.

Cleaned the shower. Cooked a roast dinner.

I washed the floors downstairs and made starch resistant rice. Also carried on knitting a warm woollen hat and drank plenty of tea

Made the Christmas puddings and brandy butter this morning.

I blitzed the house, then watched a film called Firebrand about Henry and Katherine Parr, very good, bit of an unexpected ending, but who knows?
Today I have a new jigsaw, and if we don’t get a power cut from the awful storm, I’ll do some baking.
I’ll have the dog later so if I can get her out in the rain we will have a bit of a walk around the village.

You could drive 60 odd miles down the M1 and M11 to babysit your three youngest grandchildren.
I can’t say the driving bit was a barrel of laughs though, rain, appalling visibility, high winds, the inevitable accident and tailbacks.
But what do you do when you get the call?

Me neither but perhaps the child needs extra care?

I had booked tickets for my befriended child and her mother to see the Christmas displays in the local National Trust property, not cheap for non-members. So we went anyway, through driving rain and gales.
It was actually good to have something to do on a miserable day.

Sorry, in all seriousness how do you befriend? Is there a scheme?

Yes.

There is one here, a befriending scheme, usually to help people unable to leave the house go out or to sit with them to enable their carers to go for appointments etc.

I understand about befriending but had never heard of it with a Mum and child. Must be a nice thing to do.

I snapped up 2 nets of 6 lemons, reduced down to 20p a net and a big bunch of rather bruised and over ripe bananas for 15p, in the supermarket yesterday.
So this afternoon I've made 3 jars of lemon curd, a lemon drizzle cake and a banana and walnut loaf.

Put a beef & red wine casserole into the slow cooker this morning , it's now done and smells delicious. Read the newspaper, had tea and crumpets in front of our lovely log-burner, watched some snooker and the football results (my team won, away from home too!). Now getting ready to do veggies, we'll eat the beef casserole with a very nice glass of Malbec and later on I'm in the mood for a good romantic movie ..

Put some washing on
Made a plum crumble
Went to the gym for a shortish session
Faffed around on laptop looking at ordering some Black Friday offers from Amazon and John Lewis
Read my book, fell asleep doing that, woke up, read some more.
I'm now cooking dinner with a glass of

Heavy rain all day so I've written Christmas cards which are to be posted abroad. And updating lists of things to do....

Well, I’ve had an utterly lazy day, watching tv and spending time here. I had had intentions of being busy - ironing, prepping some veg to freeze ready for Xmas, make some bread. Have I? Have I heck. Anyway, having an occasional lazy day is no bad thing. Tomorrow I’ll do some of the things I’d planned to do today, but whether I do all of them is debatable 😂.

No plans to go out. I’ve sorted out my new clothes, carried on with my Christmas cards, updated iPad and am about to make my evening meal and I’ve enjoyed a few glasses of Bargain Baileys.

Watching TV. Bored witless. Not very keen on being inside all day.

Filled up my car with fuel, refined (fiddled with) online grocery delivery orders, ordered MrJ a Christmas jumper from eBay whilst listening to rain lashing against the window. He’s on dinner duty of sausages, mash and beans.

At my daughters, going to a Christmas light turn on, then a coffee, back to daughters for takevaway and Strickly.
It's windy and raining here but I have a very warm coat and boots.

Christmas holidays coming up, between Advent dinners. I pulled out suitable clothing and packed for both - 2 different locations, weekend between.

I was to be working from 11 o’clock till 5.
I woke to see my colleague had called in sick. I decided to start earlier as the only other staff member was a relief manager from another shop.
I set off on foot in a blizzard and was 20 minutes from home when I got a call to say the relief manager couldn’t get in.
I can’t open the shop on my own so I’ve got a “snow day” my first ever!
I’ve been sitting , knitting and watching the rugby.
I’d made dinner in the slow cooker before I left so nothing to do, a true, rare day off.
I’m really cross with “the boy” for letting us all down. He has only been working with us for 2 weeks, he seemed ok yesterday just not very animated.
I don’t think his probation period is going very well!

Still waiting for the rain to calm down, need to go to my locals and get some essential meds.Thank goodness they are open till late. Used to knit, might try again in the New Year..
Going to have to find my old book on knitting or go online...
