Finally I’m starting on moving house just wonder if anyone else is doing the the same and want to share the journey with me? I’m in mid 70s and it’s tough making every scary decision alone.
I’ve struggled for months with this decision but now I need to get on with it. Join me for support.
Exciting times tanith 😄
How are you feeling?
Thanks Grammaretto I’m excited but also daunted by the whole thing.
Celebrate today and then start making lists! There will be a lot to do but you'll manage.
This thread never shows up on the Active page anymore I wonder why? I know it’s not that popular but you and I seem to be the only ones who notice it anymore Grammaretto 😂
Anyone progressed with their sale? Mine is at survey stage still hoping my buyer is happy to wait 3 months.
We completed on the 21/3, unfortunately the property we are buying is held up due to a probate issue further down the chain.
Moving day was crazy, we had packed everything ourselves other than some art work, the professional movers were outstanding and worth every penny, we were exhausted!
We are now living between our daughters and a holiday let we own until the probate is sorted.
It was all worth it so far!
Fingers crossed for you Sago my buyer asked me to move out so he could get on but I’ve said no I don’t want to move twice and impose on family and have to find storage. If he won’t wait so be it.
Well I’m 8 wks nearer moving at the end of July, I still have personal stuff to pack and furniture to donate and be picked up but the garage is pretty much only things I’m taking with me now.
How is anyone else doing?
That’s fantastic news! 🎉 Moving can feel huge, but you’re not alone—take it one box at a time. I’ve just done the same and found a brilliant man-and-van crew who made the whole thing so much easier. Happy to share any tips and swap encouragement along the way. 🏡✨
Thankyou one thing I’m puzzling about is when to move my house insurance over to the new house. I guess giving them a ring to be sure. I have family near the new house and can store some things in their garage temporarily before moving day which will be a help. When to arrange my furniture that’s being donated to go? So many questions going round in my head 😂 this moving house isn’t for the faint hearted is it?
The removers arrive tomorrow and will take 2 days. We complete Thursday next week.
However we have still not exchanged on our purchase, both the vendor and her solicitor are just vague and slow to respond to every request.
Also this big gap has made life very complicated for us. We are moving in with DD for the time being, but when we get the house (finally), it requires rewiring and we want the whole of upstairs decorated before we move in fully, so for the first month or so we will be camping there. Ths means as well as stuff going to storage and personal effects like clothes etc, going to DD we also have vast quantities of household goos in a self store locally.
On top of that, this hot weather has slowed both of us down a lot and DH, in particular has had to take life very easily as he suffers from heart failure and other heart problems and needs to take great care in hot weather.
Oh well, it probably the last house move we shall ever have to do.
Sounds complicated Monica. I don’t envy you with it, fingers crossed all goes to plan for you.
Tanith You need to insure your new home from the day you exchange contracts. It means for the period between exchange and completion you need to have both houses insured.
Thanks Monica
Just a bit of good news provisional moving date at the end of July 😱 sooner than I was told but that’s ok it actually works better for me. To be confirmed next week 🤞🤞🤞
Our house is empty. Most of our stuff is in store with the remover, but as we are moving in with DD temporarily for a couple of months, there is stuff in her house plus stuff in local storage as we will be camping in our new home for a few months while work is done.
I am exhausted.
Sounds exhausting Monica I hope all goes to plan
Sale complete. We are out and relaxing at DD's home. We must now hassl our solicitor to get exchange on our purchase. She is meticulous and careful, but every time we thing exchange is imminent she finda nother paper that needs signing or indemnity is required. It is driving us nuts!!!
Well done MOnica and breathe, My exchange should take place today but now it seems the solicitors aren’t all ready 🙄. So we have one week to exchange so completion can happen in 2 wks. Anyone’s guess whether it’s going to happen, in the mean time I can’t book or cancel lots of things it’s so annoying. As for further queries and signings they are doing my head in 😡
I need to move, The trouble is I have been looking seriously most weekends and not found anything. If I put the house on the market and still cant find anything what do I do? Was considering nearer to my son but tbh they are all working and I would be more on my own than this area where I have lots of friends. To get a bungalow after selling this would cost me a lot of money. All I have seen affordable need extensive work doing which I can’t face. I could move 6 miles away to a market town accessible to here but it would increase distance from my son which he doesn't agree with. Another solution was a flat but I worry about neighbours above, below and each side of me and no outside to potter in.
I know a friend that moved from an unmanageable house to a bungalow over a hundred miles away, her daughter not too far away, so ideal. I would be moving from very good amenities here and an area I know, to somewhere new but manageable. I have prevaricated for years and its a joke. My son says i will never move and he might be right..
Don`t move Allsorts, that is what your gut feeling is telling you, listen
Purely in money terms, it will cost 20-30 thousand pounds just to move, if you have some savings, spend a bit of that on your present home instead.
You say you `need` to move but why? Change your mindset instead, your home sounds perfect for you. Just adapt a little bit, perhaps change things round to give your rooms a new lease of life
Allsorts make a list for pros and cons, as karmaladysays you sound happy where you are so is it your home that is prompting you to move? Is it in a bad state?
I seriously have to answer those questions Karmalady abd Tanith. I tend to prevaricate.
Go to house and home forum just bumped up house selling and buying thread Karmalady started under her old name . I joined it in March 2019 helped lot of people moving 2019/2020 . And kept going as we made out properties our homes . It got to the 10th reincarnation
Allsorts is my cherished friend . And she does need to move . But it's scary on your own .But she is a strong woman and she can do it. I am the person she mentioned moving over 100 miles to my bungalow.
If I hadn't of moved I don't think I would have been alive now. As I wasn't getting the medical care I need. And my house would have become my prison. I existed I didn't have a life .
Moving gave me back at home ,life , friendships and most importantly of all the healthcare I needed . Plus found out what the 2 things I was born with. I know what my disability is and it's a rare hereditary neurological condition plus have a hole in the side of my heart.
I live a full life and fearlessly independent . I firmly believe moving has increased my life span and I am happy since my move . I hadn't been happy since my husband died in 2004.
Moving is scary on your own but it is well worth it to have a better life .
