I welcome your thoughts.
I went to Sports Direct on Friday and treated myself to new trainers.
As I was paying the till crashed. No receipt was produced. The assistant checked when the computer restarted and assured me no transaction was done.
Since then I've checked at the atm and gave been charged twice.
I returned to the store with evidence and was
told they would refer to IT department.
I'm livid. I obviously had proof of double payment.
I've since e mailed complainst dept and like an idiot included photos of my receipt.
I've just realised that stupidly it shows part of my debit card number. No other details though.
Am I likely to be scammed ?

I have been waiting for a refund from Amazon for a gift card that was unusable because it had not been activated. I gave it as a Christmas gift and it caused some embarrassment when it was presented for payment in February. I have an email confirming a refund will be made but despite online "chats" it still hasn't been made. They have had my money since December last year!

I emailed customer services back , said it was ridiculous and said would contact Daily Mail. Had just drafted letter to CEO, was suprised to get a refund

Brilliant, well done. How did you manage it?

Thank you so much for all your replies, I have a refund smile

#DollyDayDream I have had issues like this in the past - not with SportsDirect. I've found that when you come up against a brick wall and are being pushed from pillar to post the best person to email is the CEO. It's amazing how quickly they move. Here is the email address if you want to go down that route [email protected]. I'm not sure if it will get you a quick reply but it has always worked for me in the past. I would suggest sending the email to Mike Ashley first and then forwarding it to customer service with the same request you made previously. I doubt he'll see it as his PA will screen it out but, as there job is to make sure he gets only the important stuff, he/she will prod CS to get it fixed.

We live near a high school and I did the same with the Director of Education and the school. The Head teacher and the school PC were sent to talk to residents in the street.

I was nearly scammed yesterday by someone purporting to be from SKY - asked me open my laptop and asked me to do this and do that and hundreds of other questions until I said I was tired but before that he said can I put my bank card into my card reader. I just put the phone down. I checked my accounts and everything seems ok. Will check again today ..

Just to follow up, if you're a little unsure of what you want to say, you may want to watch this short video;

Sports Direct are notorious for not refunding.
Exchanges, yes, but we sometimes just want a refund.

So, make sure anything you buy there is correct.

I’ve gone right of them now.

Unless there is something wrong with the goods, you are not entitled to a refund. We've just bee spoiled!

Time2 Thu 27-Mar-25 17:15:31

Can I suggest that you email the CEO of Sports Direct, here's his email address:

[email protected]

Hope this helps.

How annoying for you. If you paid by credit card, phone the credit card company (number on the back of your card) and ask them to raise a section 75. They should refund you and then take up the issue with the company. If you paid by debit card, phone your bank and ask them to raise a chargeback. Sadly, I think you will have difficulty if you paid by cash.
I hope this helps. Good luck

Bad publicity via social media sometimes gets results so their facebook or X (formerly twitter) account would be my first port of call. Good luck!

Harmonypuss Thu 27-Mar-25 15:37:59

The fact that part of your credit/debit card number appears on your receipt will not result in someone trying to defraud or scam you because it's only the last 4 digits that appear on receipts. You'd have to be extremely unfortunate for someone to manage to guess the preceding 12 digits of your card number.

If you paid by credit card, contact them & get them to open a case against the retailer & refund you

Milliedog Thu 27-Mar-25 14:10:07

Put it on Twitter and include their @ name. I've one this twice (ages ago) and both companies sorted out the problem quickly.

tinaf1 Thu 27-Mar-25 13:56:18

Can’t you get your bank to do a chargeback and refund you.

Jan135 Thu 27-Mar-25 13:43:31

Contact your bank, they will sort it out. My daughter had this issue with her water rates and the bank refunded her and sorted it with the water company

I asked for manager ,not available!! Made a fuss and asked gor assistants name which he refused to give.
The bank suggested waiting until beginning of next wk before they pursue.
E mailed then yesterday and said would go to national papers.
Apparently the double payment dudnt show as computer crashed when I was paying. That's why I paid twice, it did crash but I have proof that I've paid twice

Thanks for the heads up after reading this I will no longer shop at sports direct….(Not that I shopped there a lot, but I do occasionally)

I have had this happen with Argos & Newlook, they want an email address, which I now refuse to give.
Argos charged me twice for a Christmas tree, my email receipt wasn’t on my phone so ended up phoning South Africa for them to sort it out (that’s where their accounts department is) 😩
I now demand a paper receipt.

PoliticsNerd Thu 27-Mar-25 09:35:58

No point in being cross; these people are not decision makers. Go to you bank as Marydoll suggests. The standard advice is "If you believe you've been charged twice for a debit card payment, you should contact your bank as soon as possible. Your bank should work to remedy the situation."

It’s always a good idea to contact the complaints section of national newspapers ( I assume they still have them?).We’ve done it several times and it always works. Companies hate bad publicity.

or facebook

Mt61 Thu 27-Mar-25 09:35:14

No. Do phone your bank like Mary doll suggests, (they will probably suggest to wait for that store to sort you out first).
