Knee cushion when sleeping.

I've had a (non strap) knee pillow for nearly two years and I love it. It really has helped with my hip and lower back.

I have two extra normal pillows. I put one under my upper arm, so my shoulder remains in a good position and another one wedged into my back. I also have a memory foam mattress, which I find the most comfortable (although that's possibly a personal thing).

When I'm away from home, I take my knee pillow with me and ask for two extra pillows. I just cross my fingers that the mattress won't be too hard.

I usually get up once in the night to go to the loo. I just slip out of bed and reposition the pillows when I get back - it takes a few minutes.

I've been doing physio-recommended exercises for my hip and lower back for years, but in my experience the pillows have been a game changer. Before them, I could hardly get out of bed in the morning and the pain was excruciating for at least half an hour.

When I had sciatica a few years ago I slept with a cushion between my knees and it really helped. I just automatically moved it around if I moved around in the night. I’ve actually had a bad back for a couple of days and am going to start using a pillow again.

My knees don't like touching each other (both artificial) so I just put a pillow between them at night.

My husband bought me one as I have bad back trouble and found it really uncomfortable. I find a good, soft ordinary pillow much comfier.

My DH always puts a pillow under his knees, but mostly sleeps on his back.

We have 12"x24" decorative pillows on the bed, and he uses that. It's not so big to get in the way when he moves around. I use mine as a book rest, then toss it aside when I go to sleep smile.

I have an ordinary pillow that I put between my knees. I don't need it all the time.
It's quite a flat one.
I certainly don't need it to be strapped on! grin

I was recommended to do this when pregnant with baby no.1 many moons ago and have used it intermittently since as I have arthritis and sometimes need some comfort.

An ordinary pillow but I find it can make you feel quite hot.

I do the same as silverlining and use an ordinary pillow .
It helps a great deal .

I use a small square cushion pad - it cost about £4! I have 2 so that I have a spare for when one is in the wash.
Hope this helps…

I had a bad cold one time and slept in the spare double bed. Somehow, the spare pillow ended up between my knees and I had had one of the best nights' sleep when I woke in the morning. I haven't managed to replicate it since!

I would just get a new mattress...?

I got an octospring mattress topper and that seemed to work for a while, but now the pain in my hip is back. I have tried a pillow between my knees before, but it was too bulky. I might try the cushion thing. Thanks everyone, especially Lathyrus3 for the laugh 😆.

I use one but highly recommend a pillow if you have one amazing how comfortable you can become with an extra pillow or two for fir positioning yourself.

I tried one because of hip and knee pain but couldn’t get on with it at all. It didn’t feel comfortable and turning was a major operation involving turning down the bedclothes, removing the cushion, turning self, replacing cushion, pulling up bedclothes…. Readjusting nightdress, taking sip of water, blowing nose, plumping pillow….. all the re-settling down stuff I need to do if starting sleep routine again😬

Free to good owner: knee cushion. Used once.

😂😂😂
I'm choking with laughter, ouch got a pain in my side now!

Use a soft flatish cushion, pillows are a little bulky. I also bought a mattress Pander topper, kind of crush my knees into that to get some relief, if that makes any sense.

I agree with silverlining an ordinary pillow lengthwise between your legs and maybe one behind your back, and that should work.

We stayed in a rented cottage which offered a whole menu of different pillows, including a knee pillow. (new, unused, spotless with a cover) I'd been thinking of trying a KP so gave it a go; and I won't be bothering to buy one. It was too thick, and I didn't like the strap.

If you have an old pillow (feather or foam) you could use the filling to custom-make a knee pillow.

I just use an ordinary pillow.

When you turn over doesn’t it sort of take all the bedclothes with it, like a beached whale?

saltnshake Mon 26-May-25 14:17:39

I use a knee cushion that does not strap to leg, you just place it between legs /knees. I have no problem with it. I am a side sleeper, I turn over frequently in the night; the cushion stays in place. Easy to remove and replace for loo visits.

I am a side sleeper and I keep seeing ads for the cushions that you strap to your leg so that your body is better aligned when you’re sleeping. Has anyone used one of these and how do they work when you want to turn over or go to the loo in the night. I have visions of me getting in a tangle trying to get out of bed! I do get some hip pain when in bed and I was wondering if these were any good or a waste of money.
