Old Family Photos

I'm wondering what you all do with old family photos that are passed down to you? We have a suitcase full of photos that we took in when DH's parents died. I have a load that were my Dad's and now my Auntie has passed on several carrier-bags full! This is in addition to all our own photos of our childhoods and our growing family. At this rate I'm going to need a whole room to house them all!

Many of the people, especially on DH's side, we have no idea who they are. There are some lovely old photos of my father's parents, but they died before I was born, so don't really mean much to me.

How to slim the collection down? I'll feel really bad throwing them out, but I know the next generation will just bin everything!

Some years ago I binned any photos of unknown people or places, the rest, some in albums are with my daughter, up to her and my son what they do now.
All my photos of the last fifteen years or so are online.

For my Daughter's 21st birthday I presented her with an album "Your first 21 years", having sorted through copious boxes of family photos since her birth. While doing that I organised all the folders into years so when it came to my Son's 21st his album was much easier to make up. I also included such special certificates, Swimming, Guides, Scouts, D of E with badges, etc. They both love them.
Recently had a good sort out of (now deceased) parents' old photos and destroyed all that meant nothing and kept only a few good ones, dating and naming where possible for when I am no longer around .
