Who will be watching Wimbledon this year?

To be honest I prefer clay court tennis, but am more than happy to watch. Just concerned about the heat this year.

I’m backing Sinner ?

I am slightly frustrated by the coverage.

I am watching on iPlayer where you can choose which match to watch. All good. But the coverage keeps telling you what is going on/has gone on in other matches that I had planned to watch from the start on iPlayer later. So annoying!

Grannybags

I’m getting stressed flicking between Sonay and Cam!

I was doing that too. Nerves shredded!

Excellent Greenfinch I’m glad you too see the positives about Rublev. At the beginning of the terrible war in Ukraine he wrote on the screen when he won a game. ā€˜Stop the war’. Sadly he doesn’t dare do that now otherwise Putin’s men would be after him.

Are we all ready for week two at Wimbledon?

Brilliant tennis. How I love the game.

I wanted Rublev to win as well NanKate. I like what I have heard about him. He has a certain vulnerability because of the mental health problems he has talked about and he is always kind and respectful to the ball boys and girls. Alcaraz annoys me with all his fist pumping although he does come over genuine when interviewed. I think Cam Norrie will find him a very tough opponent.

I agree great matches and pleased with both results.

Shame about Sonay but she played well

Two brilliant matches, very happy for both Cam and Carlos

Good day of matches, go Cam and Carlos!

Pantglas2 Sun 06-Jul-25 20:55:28

Aaarrrgh! Am watching on iPlayer and the picture keeps freezing. 🄵

Interesting that they were talking about Rublevs father being a boxer. I was chatting to someone on another forum recently about boxing which is rather, understandably, out of favour when it comes to activities for young people ( especially in socially deprived areas) but can instil discipline in people. I hadn’t thought about how important breathing is in sport even though I do relaxation tapes that tell you how to breathe.

I agree Tilly.

Isn’t it lovely to see the spectators dressing up for Wimbledon? The men look so smart and the women in their pretty summer dresses.

I always think the women at the Races look rather tarty and over the top, but no doubt that is my old fashioned views coming out.

It’s very unpatriotic but I find Alcaraz v Rublev so much more thrilling to watch than Cam Norrie v Jarry.
I am glad Cam got through but he gave us some very nervous moments.

NanKate Sun 06-Jul-25 20:14:42

I admire how Rublev is trying to keep his emotions in check. I saw a video about him and he is known to support children’s charities. Obviously Alcaraz will beat him but it has been a great match between them both.

bridie54 Sun 06-Jul-25 20:11:09

Heading to a conclusion now. Is no one else watching?

bridie54 Sun 06-Jul-25 19:33:27

Must admit am a fan of Alcaraz but Rublev is a great character and putting up such a great fight.

NanKate Sun 06-Jul-25 19:27:02

Am I the only one wanting Rublev to beat Alcaraz?

Grammaretto Sun 06-Jul-25 16:08:56

Yes!!! Can I bear to watch any more...

Millie22 Sun 06-Jul-25 15:23:36

I agree about Annabel Croft asking such silly questions. He must have thought err what??

Grannybags Sun 06-Jul-25 14:57:11

I thought the woman interviewing Taylor Fritz post match started to ask him some very embarrassing questions regarding match day superstitions. I kept thinking to myself you’re digging yourself into a hole here, just shut up. Have never thought that before.

MayBee70 Sun 06-Jul-25 03:12:02

That Swiatek/Collins match was amazing. I might watch it again. I was just going to have a bet on Swiatek to win the championship but she’s second favourite anyway. The serving from both players was incredible and Swiatek kept looking as if she was going to hit the ball one way only for it to go in the opposite direction. I couldn’t believe what I was watching.

Remember that people do dip in and out of tennis matches and I didn’t know about the ban. I’m still struggling with this lack of real line judges. It seems to have filtered through in my brain to me thinking that no one is real (crowd, umpire, players… confused.
And when the crowd go ā€˜ooh’ I keep thinking of the sound the minions make in ā€˜Despicable Me’.
