Who will be watching Wimbledon this year?

To be honest I prefer clay court tennis, but am more than happy to watch. Just concerned about the heat this year.

I’m backing Sinner ?

Great tennis today.

C'mon Emma you can do it!

MayBee70 Fri 04-Jul-25 19:49:30

He seems very vulnerable this year.

Pantglas2 Fri 04-Jul-25 19:41:40

Oh mi Carlitos…🥰

MayBee70 Fri 04-Jul-25 17:34:11

Is Draper actually 4th in the world ratings? If so I missed his rise through the ranks!

woodenspoon Fri 04-Jul-25 17:32:13

Really good matches so far. I think Emma will go out unfortunately.

Grannybags Fri 04-Jul-25 17:28:25

Sonay and Cam 🥳 Just Emma to go… 🤞

My knowledge of tennis is similar to my knowledge of football in that I don’t really understand what’s going on but I do know if I’m watching a good game or match. I can’t remember ever before enjoying virtually every match ( game? I don’t even know the correct term to use) as much as I have this week. Especially as those that have lost have, in general, gone down fighting and not disgraced in any way.

I’m glad you are enjoying this thread about the tennis Sparklefizz. 👍🎾🎾👍😎

Heart in mouth watching Norrie! Bellucci is rather nice though.

MayBee70 Fri 04-Jul-25 15:19:16

I actually found myself welling up when she won. I don’t usually get emotional about tennis.

Well done Sonnay! A Brit through!

MayBee70 Fri 04-Jul-25 14:00:15

How on earth did Kartal turn that around!

Thank you Allira , I can’t recall having any hopes when he was playing.
I lose hope when he's commentating, Anniebach!

Sound off for me ,

Castle was not a great player, doubt he was in a final but could be mistaken

He was in the doubles final of the Australian Open and won three doubles finals, was in the British Olympics team and, of course, the Davis cup team.

I think he was then a TV presenter but I'm not keen on his coverage of Wimbledon.

Andrew Castle was Britain’s No 1 when we didn’t have any other decent players! I think his highest singles ranking was only 80

Allira Thu 03-Jul-25 21:20:24

Andrew Castle was a tennis player, Britain's No 1 at one stage but I find his wittering annoying, especially when he prophesies doom or makes ridiculous comments when someone loses, instead of praising them for their efforts.

woodenspoon Thu 03-Jul-25 21:17:22

When we listen I keep the commentary on very low, especially if it’s Andrew Castle and Martina. Tracey Austin is very good. I hear the thwack of the ball, the umpire but avoid the never ending commentary.

MayBee70 Thu 03-Jul-25 20:51:01

I don’t really know who Andrew Castle is but, to be honest I like that sort of chit chat. Another sport that I listen to made me try vegan mayonnaise for the first time and they often chat about which are the best biscuits (custard creams) and what they’re having for tea. I can, however, listen to John McEnroe all day. Just crossed my mind that he could be King Charles double?

Sparklefizz Thu 03-Jul-25 20:43:43

Wow! More exciting hours of tennis! I thought Sinner was never going to clinch that final set.

I'm another one who can't stand Novak - his vaccine/Covid views, his attitude in Australia that time, the way he gestures to the spectators and kissing the grass, etc. The gestures and kissing the grass just seem false and fake. He plays wonderful tennis but I just don't like him. I would love to see him knocked out this year.

NanKate Why is Andrew Castle allowed to witter on during a tennis match? I want to hear about the strokes the player is using and have a proper analysis of the match. He’s got John McEnroe doing it now.

I totally agree.
And would like to say a big thank you for starting this thread. flowers

Labradora Thu 03-Jul-25 20:29:13

Re Novak my OH can't stand him.
I've always been a fan because of his tennis and prior to the Vaccine fiasco, which I thought was atrocious, I thought he was a wonderful champion. Example of professionalism , hard work , dedication, self-control.
I've just about forgiven him for the Covid stuff.
The statistics prove it , I think.........Goat.🐐😊
But my heart has always belonged to RAFA ....😘😘

And another rage rage against the dying of the light competitor. Always to be feared alongside so much experience.

Right on the money.
And, unfortunately, out goes our Jack.

Labradora Thu 03-Jul-25 20:06:49

I like John McEnroe as commentator , I think he's really good at it. I couldn't stand him as a player , though because of all the shenanigins.
