Who will be watching Wimbledon this year?

To be honest I prefer clay court tennis, but am more than happy to watch. Just concerned about the heat this year.

I’m backing Sinner ?

Agreed NanKate the other day he was describing how nicely decorated the players toilet is grin

Why is Andrew Castle allowed to witter on during a tennis match? I want to hear about the strokes the player is using and have a proper analysis of the match. He’s got John McEnroe doing it now.

Millie22 Thu 03-Jul-25 18:48:49

Thank goodness.

And another rage rage against the dying of the light competitor. Always to be feared alongside so much experience.

He’s turning the tide now! Cilic is a good experienced player who is now rising back to the top after some serious health issues. I think there’s quite a bit of psychological warfare on court.

Grannybags Thu 03-Jul-25 18:16:20

Oh dear. Poor Jack. That serve of Cilic is ridiculous!

Millie22 Thu 03-Jul-25 17:54:40

Come on Jack.

This is a bit worrying.

C’mon Dan! I wish he stood a chance of winning. I really dislike Djokovic!

It was interesting to hear about his back story just now. A story that should make me like him but I still can’t ( his anti vaccine stance didn’t help). Trouble is I can’t enjoy watching his tennis, which is so unbelievably good.

I really like most of the players so I sort- of -don't-mind who wins .
I think the final will be Sinner v Alcaraz. I hope Jack Draper does well but I have a horrible feeling that he's one of these British players who'is going to be adversely affected by the pressure of expectation-to -win.
With the benefit of 4th-day-in hindsight I'd put a small bet on Taylor Fritz for at least the semis as he's just survived two consecutive 5 setters against the two young guns - demon-serving Perricard and Dallio.
For the girls my moneys on Sabalenka or Swiatek , predictably.
I'd love Svitolina to win for Ukraine but I don't think she will.

The tennis last night was amazing. I decided to sit down and watch the end of the Fritz match, only for the tv to switch itself off and the remote control to disappear for ten minutes. Djokovic isn’t going to be able to use gamesmanship against Dan Evans ( the main reason why I’ve never liked him). How I’d love Dan to win.

I only realised they didn’t have actual line judges there when they mentioned it on the BBC!

Well done Emma!

Thoroughly enjoyed Tarvet v Alcaraz. Ollie Tarvet certainly did not get a thrashing and can hold his head high.
What an experience for him - appearing on Centre Court, the crowd behind him, and playing against the reigning Wimbledon Champion.
We will see more of him for sure.

Absolutely this!

One little gripe- I wish Clare Balding would stop saying 'bathroom break'. We would all understand if she just said 'break' or even 'comfort break'

Alcaraz against Tarvet, I want Ollie to win, but don’t want Carlos to lose! 🙄

Exactly how I felt!

woodenspoon Wed 02-Jul-25 18:11:23

I watch with the sound barely audible. I can hear the thwack of the ball, the scores but not so much the inane commentators. Andrew Castle drones on and on.

Crossstitchfan Wed 02-Jul-25 18:08:24

For years, my husband and I loved watching Wimbledon. Then, (I think it was a female player) decided to give a huge loud grunt every time she whacked the ball. We found that intensely irritating and it ruined Wimbledon for us. We tried watching with the sound off but soon realised that the ‘thwack’ of the ball was part of the pleasure. Without it, it had no ‘oomph’! No more Wimbledon for us.
I tried watching again a year or so ago, (my husband had passed away) but the first match I tried was between Andy Murray and someone or other. Sadly, he was more insufferable than the grunting ever was, made worse by comments from his dislikable mother. I have given up!

J52 Wed 02-Jul-25 18:00:35

What a good game. Tarvet will be back next year, I hope.

Pantglas2 Wed 02-Jul-25 18:00:32

Well played shots Tavert but Alcaraz was just too consistent.

MayBee70 Wed 02-Jul-25 17:51:30

Well done Tarvet! Like to see an underdog holding their own.

J52 Wed 02-Jul-25 17:23:30

He’s not having an easy time, but is 2 sets up.

MayBee70 Wed 02-Jul-25 17:20:49

When they were describing the match on the other channel it sounded as if Alcaraz was being soundly thrashed.
