Whether this is just friendship or something more, it means clarity is going to be impottant for you- to have direct communication about evrrything, and not have to read between the lines.
I would say to her ' if I did propose to you, what would you say' ......?
You are already good friends, she knows you and so she is unlikely to be offended.

If I were you I would ask your friend if she would like to go for a coffee/drink sometime. Suggest a day and say the ball is in her court and to message you if she's free. If she doesn't get back to you, you'll know the answer without causing either of you embarrassment. But, you might be pleasantly surprised. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

She sounds like a good friend but there is a long way between that and getting married! Without knowing her it is difficult to say if she is trying to find out if you might be interested or just being jokey. There is quite an age gap though this needn’t necessarily matter.
Why not see if she would be interested in a few outings with you and see how things go

Yes, we are very close and affectionate friends. I presume that what she meant by "the thought" was a relationship and not literally marriage. In all likelihood, that was just part of the dream. And yes, she's older, but she's gorgeous.

We all have weird dreams from time to time. I'd guess her statement implies that the thought of marriage with you fills her with horror.
But why not ask her to clarify so that you both know where you stand? If you're good friends, the episode may give you both a laugh.
