Selling old rings etc

Hi. About 3 months ago we took our gold jewellery to our local jewellers. It was inherited chains, rings etc. we would never of worn. Prices for gold were really high then. We were astonished at how much we got. Try your local jeweller.

Dont use vintage cash cow they give you a pittance. If it's gold or silver go to a jewellers that buys jewellery you will get a decent price for it

Several years ago I needed some cash to help pay for repairs to my daughter's car after she flipped it into a ditch. I've never had much in the way of jewellery but cobbled together a few broken gold items and half pairs of earrings then visited a local 'pawnbrokers' starting with R and ending in S. I was surprised to get almost £300 for the bits and bobs as they were certainly going to be melted down and not resold. These days I wouldn't be tempted by VCC as I've read some awful reviews about them.

we have just done very nicely thank you with our local auction house. i took the items round there, got a free valuation, came home and discussed it, went back put them in for sale with agreed minimum prices - all minimums were met with some hefty prices over the max valuation estimate. So check out your local auctioneers. our has a jewelry etc sale about once a month

Vintage Cash Cow is not getting much support in the answers. But where else can you sell camera equipment; camera's, lenses van Minolta etc. from 1990s? They were quite expensive at the time but were produced in 100s of 1000s. It feels wrong to just throw them away but who else but VCC wants them?

I had a really good service from Cash 4 gold. They rang me the day after I posted it off with a fair price. I accepted and the money was in my account the same day.

I have used this company too. Excellent price and service and they posted back to me the items that they didn’t want.

Hi. Please don't use Vintage Cash Cow! If you go to the website for Vintage Cash Cow reviews you will see why. This is not the website on the VCC's own website, but a website set up by very disillusioned people who have used VCC. I sent them a number of items including a vintage ladies marcasite watch. There were a few stones missing but because it was old, the settings for the vintage stones had turned black (dirty). I had to persue each stage myself as despite saying they woud contact me within so many days, it took 3 weeks of phoning them to get an offer which I refused. When they sent my items back, over 30 of the marcasite stones had been removed!! I took it into a jeweller to ask how much it would cost to replace the stones and he said he wouldn't be able to get the marcasite stones to repair it anyway. However, he didn't touch the watch but said the stones had definitely been removed very recently as the settings were bright silver where they had been removed. I contacted VCC immediately I received the items back and they denied all knowledge, even saying they had looked at the video of the appraisal while in their care. When I asked to view the video they refused, and when I asked where the items were stored before being returned I was told in a storage room. They were the only people who could have removed these stones but they refused to accept this. I made 2 complaints to them - the first one wasn't even actioned. The lady who responded to the second complaint refused to even consider that they had done anything wrong. So, please have a look at the review website before considering VCC. There are far worse incidents than mine on there.

I recently sold some bits and pieces of jewellery and was pleased with the offer and accepted it.

I explored thepossibikity of selling some gold/diamond/emerald jewellery only last year. Jeweller in the town gave a price but I explored others too.. one gave what I thought was a good price but then I discovered he'd paid someone £100 for a diamond solitaire ring. On going back to store with a friend who also wanted to sell some jewellery person discovered her ring on sale for £1050. If it stuff that can be melted down, no jewels involved easier to assess any offer given.

I’ve sold several things at our local pawn shop and got the best price, far better than what was offered by the people who do it by post.

I sold some recently to a jeweller in the town where I live. I went to a three to get an idea of the value and went with the highest. Silver isn't worth anything but they said gold is at its highest for years at the moment so I would get a few quotes and sell fairly quickly. Good luck

Do not use them

Contact your local auction house. They will usually be willing to include jewellry in their auction. Better still, look online for auctioneers who, will, on occasion run specialist jewellery auctions.

I just googled 'sell jewellry auction' and up came links from a lot of reputable auction houses like Drewatts, Fellows and Southebys, plus helpful information links.

Please do not use Vintage Cash Cow. Their valuation was so low and I had to ask for my items to be returned. When I complained they told me they were simply a house clearance company which is not what it says on the website. I then sold the items on E Bay and got twice as much, but I had already lost a lot of money on other things which I had not asked to be returned out of my ignorance of the values.

VCC must be making a lot of money to pay for the amount of advertising they’re doing.

My wife had a lot of old jewelry some damaged her mother left, father travelled a lot to the Far East and brought a lot of presents back, sister and myself had our pick. Some my wife wanted remodeling, she had a friend in the Jewlery Quarter in Birmingham she made 3 nice pieces then took her to a dealer closeby, she came away with over £2000.

If it’s gold with gems it’s worth more than you think, especially 18ct
