I think my marbles are leaving home!

I’m feeling as though my marbles are leaving home. I had a fall this morning while I was hanging out the washing. Nothing serious but I did find it difficult to get back up as arthritis has set in. Sitting down to have a recuperative cup of coffee I thought to myself that it’s a good thing I’d had my phone on me and patted the pocket I keep it in. No phone! Where is it? What have I done with it? You know the answer of course- it was in my hand!!! I am 79 in August but hoped my marbles would stay at home for a bit longer.

Oh ladies, thank you all, you’ve made me feel much better. Elephants Ears are now my favourite plant, falling on them meant I had no bruises where my very observant and concerned dd could spot them. I try not to worry her.

Moments of stress at any age can cause panic.
Look at it like this teabagwoman you are obviously more organised than you thought because the phone was in your hand all along.

If you can't find your mobile phone, if you have a landline then phone it! If you remembered to charge it, it will respond.

Obviously that was for the people who pretend they are made of iron on the thread.

Oh come on, when I was in international sales and this manager bullied me daily, messaging and asking me for SALES SALES SALES.

you either go blank from the stress for few seconds
laugh like mad at him
swear at him
or migrate

I can fall over anything and it's usually due to lack of concentration, thinking of something else rather than the boring thing I'm doing.

Was there a clear reason why you fell ? (like tripping on a step)

In later life, an un explaine fall accompanied by some temporary confusion (about where is phone), might indicate you had a TIA. Transient Ischemic Attack, is a temporary disruption of blood flow to the brain.

Even if symptoms resolve quickly, a TIA should be evaluated by a medical professional as soon as possible.

Allira.,we do not all have moments like this.

Oh, jolly good.

Obviously you lead a life free from stress or unexpected accidents.
Lucky you!!

Never mind falling, I can never remember where I last put my phone. Luckily I can ring it using my husband's mobile. It's the only time we ever use his.

Me too.

My DDs say I’m not losing my marbles, but there’s definitely a hole in the bag!

I'm o lying on my 60's but always loosing my phone - luckily Alexa always finds it for me 😉🤣. Time maybe to get that tree cut back or moved next time you have something done in the garden? Is it worth the risk in it's current situation? Hope you've fully recovered now, the shocks not nice 🥰

I'm only

Everyone gets confused after a fall or even when some things which you expected to work certain way just blew in the most horrible unexpected way

Have your kids and GP on speed dial just in case. Sort the POA and will etc

Are you sure you are drinking sufficient fluids in the course of the day.

Your experience sounds much like what happens to me when I have become slightly dehydrated!

I am trying to accustom myself to keeping my phone in one of two places, my charger for it in one place, and my glasses in one place. I find this saves a lot of annoyance with self and a lot of time wasted searching the house for whatever it is I need but cannot find!

Jess20 Thu 10-Jul-25 16:03:58

I have Google all set up to ring my phone when I loose it. Once, I kept failing to identify where the ringing was from, it always seemed to be in the opposite direction to where I was looking. Eventually found it when I sat down, back pocket of my jeans 🙄

At 79 l think your memory may not be good as before

The main thing is to enjoy your life on this planet as much as you can while you are here

l too suffetlr with really stiff painful Arthur Rightus which can get me down. Can barely walk But l enjoy myself as much as possiblein any way l can.

And l am determined to grow old disgracefully. Get your money's worth

So, Go for it Chuck

wendym8116 Thu 10-Jul-25 15:28:09

shock does things to you .. for a moment or two , you wondered where you were and what had happened ..its ok ,you not losing your marbles at all .... at 79 you doing rather well...cup of tea sort you out ...maybe phone a friend to come visit you ..

Samsara1 Thu 10-Jul-25 15:15:22

Sorry teabagwoman a fall is a nasty experience as it starts to raise the question you ask but I doubt you are losing your marbles. Like Catch 22 if you ask the question, then your aren't'.
I hope you are upright today and maybe a couple of exercise to strengthen your 'getting up off the ground muscles' would help.

Sarnia Thu 10-Jul-25 15:10:01

Very likely just one of those days. Falling is a nasty experience so no surprise you are shaken up. I hope tomorrow is much better for you.

M0nica Thu 10-Jul-25 15:04:11

In which case I have been losing my marbles for at least 40 years. I push my glasses up in my hair and then walk round the house looking for them.

Earthmother9 Thu 10-Jul-25 15:00:41

If you have a really bad fall it will knock everything out of you, even your memory. It'll come back.

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Thu 10-Jul-25 14:59:20

Don't worry, I've had a hole in my marbles bag for last few years. I just say that at pur age we have learned so much stuff and had to remember so much stuff that some of it drops out the bag to make room for more stuff. Now where did I put my glasses 🤓
