I think my marbles are leaving home!

I’m feeling as though my marbles are leaving home. I had a fall this morning while I was hanging out the washing. Nothing serious but I did find it difficult to get back up as arthritis has set in. Sitting down to have a recuperative cup of coffee I thought to myself that it’s a good thing I’d had my phone on me and patted the pocket I keep it in. No phone! Where is it? What have I done with it? You know the answer of course- it was in my hand!!! I am 79 in August but hoped my marbles would stay at home for a bit longer.

You're just having a bad moment. I don't think for one minute you're losing your marbles. It's probably shock from falling.

Not leaving home - just slightly shaken by your fall.

Aldom Wed 09-Jul-25 10:21:39

Sorry you had a fall. Hope you're ok now. Try not to worry about the lapse of memory related to the phone. You were probably in shock following the fall. Stress does account for occasional memory lapses. It's only if you notice that they are occurring frequently that you need to be concerned. smile

We all have moments like this.
In fact, I've been having them as long as I can remember. Sit down, have a quiet hour or so if you can and enjoy the sunshine. 🌞

Hope you didn't hurt yourself.

I feel for you, I’m sure it would be the awful shock of falling over, it takes a good while to come round. I too fell a couple of weeks ago and didn’t feel myself for a couple of days. Don’t worry about your marbles they’ll settle back in their place soon and ready for the next game. Sending you a hug teabag.

Thank you so much for your reassurance ladies. Thankfully I managed to fall sideways onto a clump of Elephants Ears and did myself very little damage. Amazingly the plants don’t look too bad either.

Allira Wed 09-Jul-25 10:36:38

Elephants Ears are indestructible! A good cushion.

Take care, especially when you get the washing in later.

I’m very impressed that you hang out the washing. I’ve sadly given that up. I know all the free heat and sweet smelling sheets but I’m finding it a struggle as I have an awkward flight of steps to the line and suddenly the apple tree is drooping baby apples over it and getting entangled. So scared of falling.

So sorry this happened.

Any kind of fall shakes you up and can be quite a shock.
Hope you are feeling better now and I'm sure all your marbles are all back in place!

teabagwoman Wed 09-Jul-25 12:56:12

Stansgran it was a baby apple that caused my fall. I don’t want to get rid of the tree but is starting to cause problems.

Witzend Wed 09-Jul-25 13:00:30

I’ve done. the same. Plus looking for my glasses when they were on my head.

merlotgran Wed 09-Jul-25 13:36:35

The main thing is you’re OK.
I pat the top of my head when I can’t find my glasses but very often I’m wearing them. 🤣

MickyT Wed 09-Jul-25 13:45:41

You're not losing your marbles teabagwoman we all have those forgetful moments, I was looking everywhere for my glasses the other day, and they were on my head lol, but just be careful with your footings, you don't want another fall, and I do hope you are okay, take care now

ReadyMeals Thu 10-Jul-25 14:47:39

You need to put something solid at least waist height next to the little tree so it alerts you there is something in that area you could trip over. Garden chair or something.

LauraNorderr Thu 10-Jul-25 14:50:38

Poor old elephants, I bet that hurt.

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Thu 10-Jul-25 14:59:20

Don't worry, I've had a hole in my marbles bag for last few years. I just say that at pur age we have learned so much stuff and had to remember so much stuff that some of it drops out the bag to make room for more stuff. Now where did I put my glasses 🤓

Earthmother9 Thu 10-Jul-25 15:00:41

If you have a really bad fall it will knock everything out of you, even your memory. It'll come back.

M0nica Thu 10-Jul-25 15:04:11

In which case I have been losing my marbles for at least 40 years. I push my glasses up in my hair and then walk round the house looking for them.

Sarnia Thu 10-Jul-25 15:10:01

Very likely just one of those days. Falling is a nasty experience so no surprise you are shaken up. I hope tomorrow is much better for you.

Samsara1 Thu 10-Jul-25 15:15:22

Sorry teabagwoman a fall is a nasty experience as it starts to raise the question you ask but I doubt you are losing your marbles. Like Catch 22 if you ask the question, then your aren't'.
I hope you are upright today and maybe a couple of exercise to strengthen your 'getting up off the ground muscles' would help.

wendym8116 Thu 10-Jul-25 15:28:09

shock does things to you .. for a moment or two , you wondered where you were and what had happened ..its ok ,you not losing your marbles at all .... at 79 you doing rather well...cup of tea sort you out ...maybe phone a friend to come visit you ..

wendym8116 Thu 10-Jul-25 15:30:19

at 79 people bones dont let you do that , am nearly 68 and i have problems getting up too.....

Misha15 Thu 10-Jul-25 15:42:49

Never mind falling, I can never remember where I last put my phone. Luckily I can ring it using my husband's mobile. It's the only time we ever use his.

WithNobsOnIt Thu 10-Jul-25 16:02:17

At 79 l think your memory may not be good as before

The main thing is to enjoy your life on this planet as much as you can while you are here

l too suffetlr with really stiff painful Arthur Rightus which can get me down. Can barely walk But l enjoy myself as much as possiblein any way l can.

And l am determined to grow old disgracefully. Get your money's worth

So, Go for it Chuck
