I’m researching online events, people etc from the year 1915 for a quiz.

It could be a question with 3 possible answers to choose from

Anagrams of famous people from that era

Political people etc

Actors/Actresses

I am trying to make it a fun activity.

Do you have any ideas please that I could add to the WI quiz ?

Hello. Great theme. Hope it goes well. You could ask:

What was the most common and affordable dish in 1915?

Answer: Red Flannel Hash (a variation of corned beef hash with added vegetables).

Not related to 1915 but we once went to a party where we were asked to take a photo of ourselves as babies and we had to guess who was which guest.
We didn't know many people so it was more difficult for us but a few people got me! Surely I must have changed since then? 👶
(No, I never had a dummy!)

Was it the unruly hair? Or the dummy that gave you away😁

You could ask about womens fashion in 1915.

Just something to think about, enjoyable quizzes give most teams reasonable scores so don't make it too hard or people just lose interest. Having read some of the suggestions, they are creative and interesting but how many people would know the answer? One way of avoiding the too difficult quiz is to give possible answers, it gives everyone a chance to contribute even if it's just having a guess by process of elimination ie some of the answers are obviously wrong. Really clever quizzes are the absolute death to most people.

I guess you could do a quiz with three answers to choose from which would make it easier, multiple choice to ✔️

Just one famous actress - anagram. There are so many it seems! Sounds great, the quiz. 👍

The link posted by clicketyclick is very well set out and beautifully structured but I think it may have a US bias. The list of baby names, for example, specifically says it is a US statistic although it does look very similar to what might have been usual in the UK. The name Victoria would definitely have been more common in the UK. I certainly had an Auntie Vic who was born about then.

I would have described her as a singer rather than an actress.

Lots of sites for creating anagrams! Just tried Kitchener and got dozens, e.g. Erich Kent. They can be really good fun, Google 'making anagrams'.

Many thanks for your help. I ran the 1915 quiz at my WI today to celebrate 110 years of the WI. I used a mix of my own and your questions and everyone said how much they enjoyed it.

THANKS FOLKS 💐

Allira Tue 16-Sept-25 17:53:14

Glad it went well, NanKate!

Whiff Tue 16-Sept-25 18:27:42

NanKate Google fashion of 1915 interesting what was worn. And foods that where popular in 1915. Plus music first played in 1915. Plays that where first performed.
They might be fun .
