I have used the same perfume 'Beautiful ' for many years but I think they must have changed the formula because the last bottle has lost both potency and staying power . Have you any suggestions for a similar floral perfume that isn't in the silly price category.

WelwynWitch3, on your recommendation my bottle of Cabotine has just been delivered. It smells absolutely divine! And not very expensive to buy. Thank you for mentioning it!

My late husband once bought me Yves st. Laurent “ Opium”: so I accidentally dropped the bottle down the toilet !
Don’t like “ Sunflower” either far too heavy smell .

I have always loved citrus scents, Jo Malone, Basil, Lime and Mandarin being my go to for several years. Doing some research I found a copy of Mitsouko which I rather like.

Heavy perfumes like Youth Dew and Poison, make me leave the room, can’t stand them

How long does one bottle of scent last? I have some Guerlain Samsara which I like but rarely bother using. It has still some way to go before I need a replacement. I don't think the scent has changed since it was first opened. Most perfumes I've had have been gifts from family. Favourite always used to be Lily of the Valley.

I love perfume with a strong hint of vanilla. I used to wear
Jo Malone Vanilla and Anise but that currently costs £128 a bottle. Has anyone got a suggestion for a dupe or any other perfume with a vanilla base note? Thanks.

Cabotine by de Gris. Been using it for about 20 years and have had female cabin crew ask about my perfume. I have also been stopped many times whilst shopping with women asking about my perfume, and a man, as I walked past him, said I smelt like heaven! Strangely I can’t smell the perfume myself!

I am using the Aldi Lime Basil and Mandarin dupe of Jo Malone. A fraction of their price. Doesn't last but at the price I can respray. The Jo Malone version didnt last as well as it used to which is why I stopped buying it. And although I loved the Jo Malone packaging the Aldi plain white box is fine.
I love these threads and remembering perfumes frim the past. Femme by Marcel Rochas was such a favourite. And I still have an MS talcum powder in Florentyna by MS in such a pretty tin which was my mother's. It still smells lovely and she died 30 yesrs ago. I must look on the MS website at their range.

What are they brilliant copies of JuBut?
I did ask this earlier but no reply.

JuBut Wed 27-Aug-25 08:04:47

M&S Discover range. Only £10 and are brilliant copies of other Perfumes. Last ages too. I check on Google which of their perfumes smell like when im going to replace mine. Give them a try 👍

I also picked up a bottle of Marcel Rochas Femme in TK Maxx I never realised they did good french perfumes in there..it was locked in a glass cabinet though..

Ive typed it in online and apparently John Lewis, Harvey Nicks, and also Selfridges have it…I once recent got put on a wait list in John Lewis for Guerlain’s Mitsuko and they did ring me when it came back in stock..fyi there were 14 on the list before me..

Kats2 Wed 27-Aug-25 00:23:23

Try homebargains, they have a perfume cabinet with branded fragrances for a fraction of the price of Boots.

I've worn Elizabeth Arden Green Tea or sometimes White Tea (which is a bit more floral) for years as a daily scent. They are both fresh and soft.

Recently I bought a small travel size The 7 Virtues Clementine Dream which is a nice summery scent. I like the values of the company, helping farmers in areas rebuilding after war. For instance after the Afgan war, they helped farmers move on from the illegal poppy trade to orange and rose blossoms. Their scents are lovely and not too expensive.

I should have added ‘at a reasonable price’! I did find it online today but it was over £300 and I don’t remember it being an expensive perfume when I had it.

Liz Earle number 1 is a fabulous scent, my other one is Christian Dior Diorella. Both not astronomically expensive but I do get Diorella at the airport.

I loved Diorissima but it became unavailable in the UK. No idea why. If anyone knows of it being on sale anywhere, please could they let me know? Thank you!

I agree with Oreo - Marks and Sparks have some wonderful floral scents for sale .
Lidl offer scents at an even cheaper price .
I wear both after a soak in the tub .
As we age our skin chemistry changes ,but sometimes manufacturers alter formulas .
I hate Chanel No 5 , but on Sunday my friend wore it and it smelt incredible.
I still love Coty L'Aimant .
I used to wear Laura Ashley No 1 and bought it for an American friend yearly.
Now I have to get some old favourites on the net .

AskAlice Tue 26-Aug-25 18:11:15

Try going online to the Perfume Parlour website. Just type in the name of your favourite perfume and you will get suggestions of dupes that are similar. I've bought several items (EDT, body lotion and perfume essence) of the dupe of one of my favourites - Armani She - and it is really lovely and long-lasting at a fraction of the price.

I think we just get used to an old favourite smell and don't get the full benefit. We think it has faded but we are just too used to it. Time to get a new perfume!

whywhywhy Tue 26-Aug-25 07:01:18

I recently bought a perfume called Inis. The smell is so beautiful to me.

Years ago I loved Fifth Avenue by Elizabeth Arden.

Other perfumes seem too pongy.

Dottydots

I haven't worn perfume for many years now as I'm watching the pennies. However, after reading all the above comments I'm going to go mad and treat myself to some. This 83 year old will soon be getting admiring sniffs in the Co-op.

You made me laugh with your last sentence 😂

mabon2 Sun 24-Aug-25 18:25:52

The are overpriced and the packaging is expensive. I buy dupes
they dont last as long but because they are cheap you can spray often.

Bukkie Sun 24-Aug-25 18:07:44

Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker is as it's name says lovely. White musk by Body Shop is still a favourite. M and S do lots of reasonably priced perfumes to try.

My favourite perfume years ago was ‘Dune’. My husband bought me a huge bottle, and I was delighted.
Soon after, I had a hysterectomy, which went well. We went out to dinner to celebrate and I put my ‘Dune’ on as the finishing touch. We soon realised it smelled absolutely awful! My husband, never one to be unkind, reluctantly said it smelled like cats’ pee, which it did.
A doctor friend told me this had happened because the operation had affected my hormones. I was so upset.
My daughter, bless her, was thrilled to take it off my hands, so at least I could still smell it even though it wasn’t on me.
Luckily, the hormones didn’t affect my second favourite, ‘L’Air du Temps’.
I had no idea hormones could do this!

Jennerdysphoria Sun 24-Aug-25 13:54:34

I really liked the scent of Ambre Solaire suntan lotion, but the formula is different now.
