Yes you are right as I'd forgotten that there was another long running thread after the AR one. It was something to do with class and got quite nasty in the end.

I wonder what the outcome was for the poster whose adult children wouldn't speak to her when she had a new relationship with a kind and caring man.

GSM was very helpful to many of us with her legal advice. I certainly miss her.

GSM was a kind, polite, helpful person.

I'd not say I miss her for her advice, which to me is self serving.

I miss her because she's lovely.

I still read occasionally but almost never post due to nasty comments usually, I'd say, to not having read exactly what I put. Sometimes I think people need an argument/need to vent. Maybe their lives aren't great at that time. But I don't need to be anyone's 'whipping post'.

I believe FannyCornforth coincided with covid. Her very gay personality comforted everyone, any time of the day or night. I know she spoke of family health problems but it was a sad day after the crucial covid problem passed, she told GNS she was leaving.

I agree this thread shouldn't be all about banned posters, and previous threads, but sometimes things need correcting.

I am struck by the fact that most of the posts on this thread are about care and concern for others - which is heartwarming and reassuring. It is good that newfangled things like the internet enable connections with people we'd never meet or hear from otherwise and provides a way to connect with care and compassion. Yes - there are other kinds of posts and the people who post with negative comments also need understanding and compassion - though this is a lot harder I know. GN can be and often is a force for kindness.

I had a longish gap when the daily Gransnet emails stopped - I don't know why this happened - then they suddenly started again and I found Germanshepherdsmum had disappeared. We had similar politics and she praised what I posted when Starmer became PM. I never found her abrasive but she stuck to her guns. Gabriella was interesting, I would have liked to have met her. Yorkshire Lass seems to have gone. There was someone very abrasive, a name something like Revolver. There were some very regular posters who have gone.

I miss GSM too and was thinking of her when reading this thread.

Someone, or more than one someones, obviously took offence at that but, unless Angela Rayner was on the thread (which I doubt, better things to do!) it wasn't a personal attack.

And why would that be?
Lots of posters get lots of deletions but still continue posting.

I don’t think HQ have a problem with discussing previous posters, at least not in the way referred to by the OP. Unfortunately people have turned it into a thread about why posters have been banned, which imo wasn’t what this thread was about. It wasn’t meant to be about airing grievances.

I also was considering removing myself from GN after being on here a fairly short time after getting some stick on a comment made to which I'd apologised in advance and again later . It was partly my fault as I'd made a comment about arrogance then added my thoughts from personal experience on only children without explaining why. In hindsight it read that I thought only children are arrogant. Not so. I should have expanded that I have found from personal experience that some (not all) only children are selfish eg a very good friend back from her hols never once asked how my dementia father was doing even though she knew he'd been hospitalised while she was away. She just wanted to tell me all about her holiday and show her photos. Like I said, I'd apologised again after my post and from further sly digs I came to the conclusion that some posters will have a go at a poster or make comments/suggestions down the line clearly not having read all following posts within a thread. At the time of my post, I was particularly down which made me think was it worth being on GN. I'd joined to have a bit of a breather from being a carer and to feel a part of the real world but decided to stay on as there are some truly lovely people on here so why should I allow the minority to 'win'. The sad part is that there are a few posters who get quite nasty and probably don't even recognise this trait in themselves. One such post that comes to mind was about a GC attacking the GD in the private parts. That gran was seeking advice but it ended up with posts virtually accusing her DH of being a paedophile. No wonder she said she was removing herself.

She was a great help to many people and gave her varied knowledge of legal subjects free to people. She just wanted to help people….

Also is a bit disheartening to read two members discussing why the thread you decided to create is a big waste of time.

I remember Gabriella. She lived in my area and was due to come to one of our meet ups in Reading but she never came.

I dip in and out of the news and politics threads and can understand things getting heated on there but on a post about whether to remove one’s shoes when visiting, or simply for posting about Christmas??

Another poster I very much miss is Gabriella Such entertaining posts, but again there were those who seemed to take delight in sniping and criticising her.
She quite rightly retaliated, so possibly was banned.
Such a shame.

I suppose if I think something is wrong, I do say I think it is wrong.

I think different opinions are interesting. There was recently one about helping people after bereavement that challenged my thinking. I don’t see that as a problem.

The problem comes when people move from the discussion to personal remarks and judgements.
