Ask a gran

What was the outcome for these GN's.

Sometimes a post resonates with me and I would love to know the outcome.
Two that stick in my mind was a lady having dreadful problems with a painful leg which needed regular dressing. She was clearly very distressed by the poor treatment from her GP surgery and the pain and constant weeping from her leg.
The other was a Granny who had given a box of biscuits to the playgroup staff when her GD left to go to school. Granny had collected her 4 days a week for a couple of years so had got to know them. It was her way of saying thank you. When her daughter found out she hit the roof and stopped speaking to her Mum.
Both these posts had pages of replies but I would love to know if the lady is no longer suffering with her leg and if, now that term has started, the daughter has started speaking to her Mum again, if only to ask for lifts to and from school.
Do other GN's wonder how some posters have got on?

Yes. Many years ago there was a regular poster called nannynoo who was bringing up a grandson with autism. I would love to know how life turned out for them.

And of course not forgetting Gillybob(?) who was going through a dreadful time and was caring for her husband who was ill, and also helping her single daughter and grandchild. She was at her wits end and suddenly just left GN. I often wonder how she is getting on and hope her life got easier.

Yes I do sometimes think about this poor woman, as well. She lived in the North East, if I remember correctly. It was a dreadful time for her. I do hope things improved.

I know J52 I was so concerned about her I even asked if anyone living near her (I don't live in the North East) could possibly befriend her and help in any way. I would have gladly done so if I lived near her.

Sarnia the lady with the awful leg problems is having a rest. If you scroll through the post which of course Birdbrain has forgotten, is it hips and knees? You will find she is on the way to recovery but considering suing when it is finished.

Yes, sometimes we are left wondering and hope it's not because the poster left, distressed, or things did not improve.

Other posters come to mind, like maddyone as well who no longer posts.

Allira Tue 09-Sept-25 11:50:12

The poster with the infected leg was ferry23

The last thing she posted was:
I will post updates as and when there's something significant to say. Thank you all - I can't say that enough times. When I first posted I was in quite a scary place and you all dragged me out of it and made me feel I was not in this alone. You're all stars!

Once I get to thinking about how I'm going to handle the debacle of the last 8 months I shall start a new thread for your input

I hope she is continuing to improve. 🙂

I wonder how Miss Adventure is now. I may have missed an update but I think she was recovering from a serious illness last time someone posted her news

SueDonim Tue 09-Sept-25 12:56:51

Is Maddyone not here now? I did think she’d been very quiet lately, although I know there was a lot going on in her life.

Also Callistemon, she’s gone or at least, I haven’t seen her of late.

Curlywhirly Tue 09-Sept-25 13:04:17

I think Callistemon was barred, can't think why as she wasn't controversial or goady.

Millie22 Tue 09-Sept-25 13:16:37

Yes what happened to Callistemon?

Thank you for that. I couldn't find it. I'm pleased she is on the mend.

Aveline Tue 09-Sept-25 14:45:47

I think Callistemon is back among us under an assumed name!

No she wasn't.
She just had a name change.

I'd like to know how MissAdventure is now, hope she's reading this flowers

I found the thread and posted her update above at Tue 09-Sept-25 11:50:12, Sarnia.
Nothing more since, as far as I know.

Georgesgran Tue 09-Sept-25 14:55:15

Yes, it’s petra posting updates on Miss A, but the last one I can find was in June.

Babs03 Tue 09-Sept-25 15:06:37

I was absent for some time from March until summer so the last I heard about MissAdventure was that she had been very poorly, so didn’t dare ask when I came back on the site. Am hoping she is still recovering.
Did anyone ever find out about BigLouis?

ferry23 Tue 09-Sept-25 15:11:06

I'm the leg lady!

I'm just back from my 5th visit to the Wound Clinic. There's been a couple of glitches along the way, but the leg is now healed and today, after almost 9months, we ditched the horrible compression bandages and I now have a compression sock.

I've to try with the sock until next week's appointment but I can call on the District Nurses if I have any problems before then.

I just wish I'd known about the Wound Clinic 9 months ago, and also that I could have had my dressings changed at the weekends by a District Nurse which my surgery should have been organising. Those two things woud have saved me a lot of discomfort, pain and distress.

When I first posted about my leg, I was very low in spirits. The wound clinic has been brilliant apart from one "Cruella de Nurse" whose patronising and threatening attitude set me back a bit when I was feeling vulnerable and depressed. My GP referred me for anxiety counselling as it was all getting me down a bit.

I suspect this could have been treated quicker and better but I can't substantiate that so I just have to move forward from here.

The lovely people on here kept me going through a very tough time. I shall be eternally grateful smile

BlueBelle Tue 09-Sept-25 15:11:58

No Babs no one ever found out about BigLouis I saw her name come up in a thread the other week and got all excited but it was an old thread, I wish we knew
Is Petra still posting? is anyone in touch with her I d really like to know how MissA is ?

BlueBelle Tue 09-Sept-25 15:13:22

So glad you’re doing so much better Ferry keep it up x

Allira Tue 09-Sept-25 15:16:25

Lovely to hear your update ferry23 and I'm glad you've made such good progress.
I hope your GP surgery has apologised and learnt a lesson from your case and realised that you have a Wound Clinic in your area. Something for us all to know about should the need arise.

As for that nurse - well, there always seems to be one, doesn't there! It makes you wonder why someone would choose nursing as a profession.

Oreo Tue 09-Sept-25 15:19:26

Pleased to hear you’re on the mend now, but what a year for you!

Babs03 Tue 09-Sept-25 15:22:30

So glad you are feeling better both physically and with regard to your spirits, I remember how bad you felt in your last post about your leg.
Wishing you - and your leg.
All the best ❤️🌹
