Ask a gran

What was the outcome for these GN's.

Sometimes a post resonates with me and I would love to know the outcome.
Two that stick in my mind was a lady having dreadful problems with a painful leg which needed regular dressing. She was clearly very distressed by the poor treatment from her GP surgery and the pain and constant weeping from her leg.
The other was a Granny who had given a box of biscuits to the playgroup staff when her GD left to go to school. Granny had collected her 4 days a week for a couple of years so had got to know them. It was her way of saying thank you. When her daughter found out she hit the roof and stopped speaking to her Mum.
Both these posts had pages of replies but I would love to know if the lady is no longer suffering with her leg and if, now that term has started, the daughter has started speaking to her Mum again, if only to ask for lifts to and from school.
Do other GN's wonder how some posters have got on?

And me! I’m looking for witty posts …. 😁

You're not allowed to be funny any more on GN ☹

I think Lemongrove is among us too under a different name...

Oh! I hope so 😀

Oh so do I 🥳

Doodledog Norah will tell me if I am wrong, but I assume she means that whenever GSM is mentioned it is to say she is missed because she gave free legal advice, not because people miss her as a person. I have said the same in the past. If I were GSM I would feel quite hurt about that, and yes - it does seem that those wanting a lawyer on tap are rather self-serving (I don’t think Norah meant to apply that to GSM, but to those who only seem to miss the free advice).

I don’t know why GSM was banned - the last thing I remember was the shocking ‘green trouser suit’ thread, but she survived that, so goodness knows. I would prefer to see suspensions rather than bans - maybe a three strikes and you’re out’ policy - but HQ has to protect GN from legal action. I too would like to see GSM return (I thought she had at one point) because she did offer a different perspective. Rather than attacking politicians personally (well, apart from AR, obviously!) which gets so tedious, she argued about policies, which is so much more constructive. I rarely agreed with her views (although I sometimes did) but found the discussions interesting. Legal advice is a bonus, but I would like her to know that she is missed for more than that.

THIS. Thank you, Doodledog.

I think the consensus is that BL died - there was a recent thread about missing posters and her name cropped up.

I also thought I saw BigLouis posting a few days ago but, when I looked again, it turned out to be an old thread that someone had revived.

Different name now 😉

Sadly Phoenix died but she will always be remembered for her poetry.
I just sent a copy of one of her poems to my DD who is having a dreadful time at present.
Gillybob lives about twenty minutes from me and at the time my DH and I offered help but it was declined. I did have a lovely private message from her when DH died four years ago.

Aw, how kind of you to offer help to Gillybob, I was so worried about her. Here's hoping she's in a much better place now and her life has improved.

Allira Thu 11-Sept-25 10:19:08

I'd not say I miss her for her advice, which to me is self serving.

If I misunderstood Norah's comment then I apologise. Perhaps the semantics were rather confused.

EllenVannin brightened my day.

Mine too.

Mine too! EllenVannin always felt like a friendly neighbour.

I also recognise several of the others mentioned.

I liked GSM, ( anyone with connections to Norfolk must be good!).

I wonder what happened to Lemongrove. She disappeared around five years ago when I was in a very dark place, suffering from grief and lockdown rage and wasn't here very much.
I seem to remember that her husband had been very ill but was on the mend. Her sense of humour brightened my days and I miss her.
I also miss Gabriella who could be sparky and controversial but always provided food for thought and subjects to debate. I think she announced she was leaving after a spate of unpleasantness from others who didn't like her PoV.
And, yes, Gillybob, EllenVannin, BigLouis, where are you now?

GSM was very helpful to many of us with her legal advice. I certainly miss her.

GSM was a kind, polite, helpful person.

I'd not say I miss her for her advice, which to me is self serving.

I miss her because she's lovely.

A thoughtful post Doodledog.

The quote function on my phone is intermittent (is that true for others?) but this is in reply to Allira asking Norah about her comments on GSM.

Norah will tell me if I am wrong, but I assume she means that whenever GSM is mentioned it is to say she is missed because she gave free legal advice, not because people miss her as a person. I have said the same in the past. If I were GSM I would feel quite hurt about that, and yes - it does seem that those wanting a lawyer on tap are rather self-serving (I don’t think Norah meant to apply that to GSM, but to those who only seem to miss the free advice).

It’s difficult when people just vanish without explanation, particularly when they have friends on here. HQ are anything but transparent about moderation, which doesn’t help, and nor does the ‘spirit of Gransnet’ thing, as it’s incredibly vague, and leads to accusations of unevenly applied bannings. All the same, if they explained every time they would end up constantly defending themselves, and explanations could easily get personal and difficult to do without repeating whatever was said to cause the ban in the first place.

How great to hear your are improving ferry23, I too often think of particular GN's who disappear and you never know how they are doing. I sometimes miss a couple of days and then wonder if I have missed the update from a poster that I have been following too. I too am grateful for all the response I get from GN's especially when things are tough and I am wide awake and in pain at about 4am. It is good to be able to come on here and read about other peoples lives and how they are coping with things and I am grateful for good suggestions from other people. Long may GN's carry on and wonder if we could do a thread where people could just send that post , not necessarily in detail, but just saying hopefully , things much improved, or things mended or improved in whatever way . Anyway very good to hear that ferry23 is in a better place.

It almost seems as if the most interesting people who can also be forthright and controversial, are the ones sadly who end up being banned.
