personally I would never wear a one dark colour outfit to a wedding. It mkes the wearer look like some threat from the future, knowing smething than no one else celebrating knows, but as I said, that is a personal opinion and the effect somebody dressed like this would have on me.

Good idea re looking at vinted. You can get some bargains. And if you buy and dont like then resell it. Also may be worth looking at QVC? They have several ranges in various sizes and price brackets. They also often use plus size models so you can see what an outfit looks like. My son got married during Covid when they could only have 12 people. It was all a bit sudden and I inadvertently ended up wearing smart cream trousers with a navy fitted top, flat shoes, a pretty bag and a shawl (which I needed as it happened). Now I look at the photos, I think I looked fine, I wouldn’t panic, just wear something pretty and/or smart….and comfy…..and enjoy. (And anything goes these days).

Maybe not black for a Spring wedding? What about a deep berry or bottle green? Navy can look very classy and more flattering than black, depending on your complexion.

The biggest mistake I made when mother of the groom was to buy new shoes to match my dress as my DD said I must. My the end of the ceremony and the photos outside the church I was crippled. I'd left a pair of comfy shoes in my car for driving to the reception and when I got there I decided to keep them on! I doubt anyone noticed, except maybe DD! Yu must be comfortable. I did wear a dress, which is not usual for me, but found one I liked and suited my figure - very overweight at the time. It has only been worn 3 times and is probably now much too big as I've lost ove 6 stones since the wedding 8 years ago! I went to a nephew's wedding recently and wore trousers - size 12 which I thought I'd never manage! I'm still bigger on top but I was happy with the top I chose and most of all was comfortable all day.

I did the same, jocork, as mother of the bride, and endured them through the ceremony and the photos but changed into lower-heeled sandals for the reception.

Try looking at Marla Wynne on QVC. She is a top heavy lady and designs for that shape. She does lovely jackets and dusters which look fab over trousers. Even if you didn't buy anything of hers (quite expensive) it might give you some ideas.

Wide leg trousers are so much ‘ dressier ‘ than other shapes, so would be a good choice. Definitely not leggings, as has been suggested.

Very dark navy and I referred to dark clothes because my comments apply to all dark monocolour outfits.

Why don't you wear make-up?

Not everyone does! It's not compulsory! I never wear it - but for my daughter's wedding last year I went into Boots and a lovely older lady at the make-up counter (who wasn't plastered in make-up either) was very helpful and steered me in the right direction.

I think as the wedding will be in spring smart Cream coloured trousers would be lovely with a navy or black top. Upper body difficulties are better camouflaged in dark, plain sleek tops. With shorter necklaces.

I live with Dolly Parton type body, I understand.

I live in trousers and flat shoes too but for a wedding this summer found an ankle length dress and wedge shoes. I shopped online, and it took several orders (Boden, John Lewis, Next, Marks, Ro&Zo I think that's all!) to find the right one. I'll probably never wear it again but I was very happy with it on the day.

It is very posh, barn conversation, posh hotel overnight.
At 88 , short but stout, like the teapot in the nursery rhyme, I am worrying unnecessarily as no eyes will be on me but still want to look decent.

My granddaughter got married recently. I was part of the entourage and I wore a simple blue dress and a matching cardy as it was a bit chilly and felt very comfortable in it along with a fascinator. I had to read out a poem my granddaughter wanted and along with the party afterwards the blue dress seemed to fit in well. It was from Chums and it wasn't expensive but I felt it was just right for the occasion. My granddaughter was pleased anyway which was nice

You obviously use the WWW so why not browse somewhere like Pintrest searching for outfits that others have suggested .
It’s always hard finding the right outfit for an occasion but it’s also nice to get a bit ‘glammed up’ dress up & look your best .
Make up is not a must but it’s also a great way to enhance your features or distract from them 🫶 either way a face balm that’s neither foundation or concealer will do wonders for a nice healthy looking glow . With a touch of mascara & a natural lipstick 💄
