Support for me

Good morning,

My OH has depression.
It’s a bit of a bad time for him at the moment.
He has support.
Does anyone know if there is support out there for me?
Many thanks 😊

Oh Mel, that’s a tricky one for you to live with. I’m sure there is support for you out there - try looking at the notice board in your local library where support groups often put contact details. The Samaritans are good at listening and signposting to relevant groups too.
I hope things ease for you soon.

I agree with approaching the Samaritans and asking them for advice. Surely they’ll know where to signpost family of someone who’s struggling.

Sorry to hear this, so very difficult for you both. There should also be information on the notice board at your GP surgery. I do hope you find the support you need. 💐

I have been trying to get support for years especially with dealing with my son. It has been patchy to say the least, but maybe you will have more luck as you are married and not seen as an inadequate parent...

I actually found MIND very supportive...

You may not class yourself as a carer but you are in a way. I would be happy to welcome someone like you to our carers group. Your Mental Health matters a lot too, so you can cope with his depressions. Find a good carers group that will be happy to support you. Where are you?

Speak to your GP as they do offer counselling that is free. Best of luck as that must be very difficult.

What about Age UK?

I cant add anything more to all the excellent advice given.
So I'm sending all my best, positive wishes to you from myself and my greedy dog. 😊

The Samaritans don’t give advice but will listen though, so if you just need to get it off your chest that’s a good start but for practical advice try Mind, or better still ask your GP to refer you for some counselling or a social worker to point you in the right direction for help for yourself

Is your husband being supported by mental health professionals? If he is it would be worth speaking to them as some mental health teams have carers groups to support family members. Otherwise MIND provides support to families and they would be my first port of call. I do hope you find the support you need, living with a depressed person is extraordinarily difficult.

My husband had depression and anxiety for about 16 years. Sometimes as with your husband, he has periods when he is really down. I don't think people realise how difficult it is for their partners especially when their partners have multiple health problems like I have. You feel like a swan trying to appear calm and in control yourselves whilst frantically paddling to keep afloat. I really empathise with you.x

I am just hoping you get the support you need it’s a difficult situation you are in 💐.
