Ticket protocol

"Pay me what you can afford" I hate that, why not be honest and state what you want for the ticket. If that was said to me I would pay full price as I would not want to look mean.

I will always offer to pay full price, but often they will just ask me as a guest. I do the same to friends or family; I figure I've already paid the ticket and my DH couldn't come, so it would otherwise sit empty.

If the friend said to pay what you could afford, I would look up the ticket price and pay that.

But only if you really want to go.Travelling there is expensive too.
If it’s a real friend and they can’t now attend I would give the ticket not expect them to pay for it.

During the resrictions due to Covid, etc we went through a phase of booking tickets for the ballet in Plymouth then finding that one of us (usually DH being stuck in France) couldn't attend. We gave away the pairs of tickets each time to friends who were keen to go, often not having experienced much live ballet before. We didn't expect payment but friends often reciprocated with bottles of wine, etc.

Personally I would give it to them and expect nothing in return. Better it gets used.

But if someone offered it to me, ie the other way round, I'd probably buy them a gift, not money.

If I can't go to a show.... and offer a ticket to a friend, I would never ever accept any money....I am just happy the tickets are not wasted.....

I’m interested that some of the replies here say they wouldn’t expect payment. That is what I always thought would be the case, but lately I find people are expecting something. I’m not talking about sought after productions where tickets are scarce, but often shows with tickets still available. £80 to see a play . London prices !
