Driving theory test. Should there be a limit?

A learner driver has finally passed their theory test at the 75th attempt. According to the article another is still trying after over 120 failures.
Am I alone in thinking there ought to be a limit to the number of times the test can be taken? Surely if a person needs so many tries then maybe they would be better off as a passenger, for all our sakes.

When my son took his theory test he got the highest score they had ever recorded.

You can't get more than 100%

But nobody at that centre had ever scored 100% before.
I should be in bed really, overtired and not explaining very well

Oh, I see! 😁

Sleep well 😴

Is this really true..The current charge for this test is £23.
Sounds fishy and dodgy to me

Do they need an official document for some purpose.

So how much have they spent over years?

Would it be cheape4 to take Taxis?

It would be interesting to know the outcome of the practical side of driving

It is £23 to sit the Theory Test withknobs if booked through the proper website. You can only sit the Practical if you have passed the Theory and there is a time limit for that. There is a wait of approx 22 weeks and the Gov is considering using military examiners to reduce it.

Taxi fares seem crazy at the moment - it would be far too expensive to use them on a daily basis to get to work.

I’m picking up DGS2 from school next week - a taxi (round trip) would be £150 x 5 days = £750!

I agree. There are too many drivers on the roads anyway.

Yes. Some people are definitely not meant to drive. Me for one. I just haven't got the right personality, although I did pass my test. Having said that, I haven’t driven for over 30 years.

Did your DD take driving lessons before her 17th birthday in that she passed the practical so quickly afrerwards? Just asking as have 16 year old GS who would love to have lessons and I'd pay but always thought you had to be 17 to be out on the roads even with provisional.

I was wondering that too.

There are young driver courses for 16-year-olds, but they take place on private land.

DDiL has passed her test - but never drives. I understand how she feels, but it puts an immense burden on DS who has to do all the family driving as well as a lot of driving for work.

He lived 200 miles from us, although our recent move has brought that down to 150 miles, and we are now on a direct train route
