I’m so disappointed.

I decided to go for a natural theme this year and I’ve bought one of those swags of dried oranges, cinnamon sticks etc to go along the mantle piece.

It’s awful. So dull and brown looking. Not at all the rich warm look I was hoping for. It was going to have candlesticks with warm golden yellow candles and they look awful with it too.

Oh what can I do? I have no gift for this sort of thing. Help me dress my fireplace.

(Or tell me to just throw it away…….)

You say you’ve added greenery, so you could add some little battery operated white fairy lights intertwined, some holly berries picked from outdoors, maybe some white/silver mini baubles if thats your thing, a couple of tartan bows - theres lots to choose from.

The decs are in the charity shop.

Not at all, don't give up. So I would get a mirror first and secure it upright over the backing wallpaper, with perhaps a surrounding of silver or gold paper. Then you could place a simple white candle in the centre with some greenery round it, plus a sprig or spray of red berries ( you could get a sprig of mistletoe later to change over from the red berries. If they shrivel. ) Then lay your browner bits along but again feed some small white , but warm lights along the front of the display. Switch on lights. And enjoy the double vision provided by your mirror. Be crafty and get a couple of cotton wool buds, then either mix a little cinnamon and nutmeg and maybe a touch og ginger
with tiny amount of hot water and dip cotton bud into it, and hide at the back alternatively , put a few drops of essential oil you like. Lavender would be restful and you have a lovely thing to enjoy with reminders of the past. Sit back and close your eyes. And perhaps play some music that takes you back to childhood , and remember loved ones.
Don't beat yourself up. Make this a link with your earlier life and try to remember the good times.

Maybe use silver & gold stuff to brighten them up?

If you have only recently bought it. Can it be returned?

I use a lot of Christmas decorations in my garden and at church .I majecthem or get them very cheaply from a charity shop and they sometimes look a bit tanished or are the wrong colour .
I spray paint them and then ,
sprinkle with glitter .
As your decorations are orange - gold would do something magical for them .
