Why?

It's usually due to someone wanting to cause disruption which is why their posts get reported and deleted but sometimes a poster doesn't realise the thread is an old one.

That’s why I think old threads - say from ‘22 or ‘23 should be deleted. I’ve often seen posters (unaware of the thread’s age) who add to the thread say it’s still relevant - often they aren’t. Personally, if someone finds an old thread and wants to add to it - why not just start a new thread?

When it is not a burning issue or current news event I don’t see the problem. If it is of interest to someone on GN and they want to give their opinion then why should it matter how old the thread is.

I always find the really old threads quite sad with posters who are no longer with us for one reason or another

Sometimes, Granmarderby (and others) the resurrected thread is sometimes of a delicate nature. The spammer posts, which is then reported to and deleted by GNHQ, but then a GN posts a comment on the original question, without noticing the date, or reading the whole thread. For example, a recent thread was asking for advice for a relative (Mother) and had the poster read through the thread, they’d have seen that the OP’s Mother had died. In an old thread about wearing seatbelts, a GN called someone a ‘fool’, but again through the course of the thread, the OP had reported that her friend ‘the fool’ had died.

I just think threads should have a ‘shelf-life’

I think some issues, particularly interpersonal issues, resonate with individuals when they come across threads sometimes. Not everyone is paying attention to dates right away. Plus, if Gransnet didn’t want engagement with old threads they would be deleted by the site.

In truth, the thing I find most bizarre about this site is how rigid and controlling some get about how others post. I can’t count how many weirdly aggressive comments I read about how people should engage posts and conversations, as if the rules of the site moderators matter less than the unofficial “rules” of some Gransnetters. That’s the real mystery!

If it says they’ve ‘moooved’, you can still click on the writing and the thread comes up, at least it does on my I pad.

I still am unable to access the ‘Search’ facility, even though I used to be able to.
