A friend is spending Christmas in India and says she will bring me back something nice and asks what I would like. I really don't need anything and have a house full of clutter and ornaments. As she is insisting what would you ask for? Nothing too expensive.

When i went ti India street sellers sold strings of little elephants brightly painted and decorated. I bought several to give as gifts. Friends use them at Christmas as decorations on the tree or hang them from door handles.

Something textile, such as a cushion cover, table runner or scarf. There are some beautiful Indian textiles.

I have a DB who always travelled widely, to avoid the small ornaments I asked for necklaces of a local design.

Agree with textile suggestions - cushion covers, throws etc.

Maybe some stationery?

They have handmade paper beautifully decorated.
Friends who went some years ago brought some back for me and I enjoyed using it.

Indian textiles are wonderful. I have quite a few in my house. If you are into sewing you can cut up saris and sari borders to make other things. Look for the ones with shisha glass embroidery or spamgles.

A necklace of beads is what I would love.

I took home a lovely pashmina for a friend.

I was thinking textiles, too. Depends on your style I suppose. I like the sound of the little elephants as well.
