When I'm talking to someone who's not aware of my hearing loss, I will let them know and say I apologise in advance if I keep asking them to repeat. So I gave this little opening today when I had an appointment with a nurse at the surgery. I thought she would be mindful of this but she spoke so fast that I had to ask her twice more to slow down. It was very frustrating as I really needed to catch the information she was giving me. On a recent package holiday, the coach rep spoke ten to the dozen. Had I been travelling solo, I would have been completely at a loss and may have missed something important. I managed to get her on her own while others were busy getting their luggage and explained to her that she should be mindful that some people may have hearing problems and so she should speak slower. a half hearted apology given and could tell it didn't really register with her. I have put on my feedback form that staff should adjust their pace of speech. Just 2 examples out of many and don't get me started on tannoy announcements everywhere lol. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that people seem to speech far quicker these days?
