Has anyone heard from either of these two ladies recently? I know that EllanVannin was banned, but thought that she had been reinstated.

I miss reading their posts.

Anyway, Anniebach is still posting if anyone missed her post! 🙂

And the infamous Flying Handbag

Grandmabatty Thu 12-Mar-26 16:38:48

Rufus? I think he was banned but later heard he had died.

sassenach512 Thu 12-Mar-26 16:34:44

Then there was the old Aussie guy who ruffled a lot of feathers. Wasn't he banned too? Can't remember his username 🤔

No just me, thank goodness!

I'm just an old-fashioned girl -

I like the old fashioned flowers, violets are for me
Have them made in diamonds by the man at Tiffany
I want an old fashioned house, with an old fashioned fence
And an old fashioned millionaire

Downton Abbey? 🤔

Of all threads?
Did the Dowager Countess take offence at something she said?

Downton Abbey?? Does anyone have a link, please?

The tread was about a film, I've never seen the film. However I understand some people thought it was 'historical' and others disagreed.

Hair tongs for curling?

Well, I've just looked at the first couple of pages and quite frankly, I find some of it quite funny!

A new? poster called MatildaMay takes offence at something which Germanshepherdsmum said to her which was fairly innocuous - GSM's posts get deleted but then quoted and this new poster takes offence and is extremely rude in response - but her posts do not get deleted. Why?

It looks like a storm in a bone china teacup to me and why anyone should have been banned over it is a mystery.

MatildaMay may not have been a new poster of course as she inferred that GSM was always rude. 🤔

Rather ironic!!

I've just read the thread and I absolutely agree with what you've said Allira.

It as completely ridiculous and I really don't understand why MatildaMay was getting so angry about being called old fashioned. It's not exactly a deadly insult grin

I'm keeping my opinion of the other poster involved very firmly to myself, but I really don't see (from the quoted bits that remain) why she was deleted or why it should be a reason for banning.

(The spat did make me laugh, though)

I missed all that at the time, probably because I'd never seen DA and had no interest in it. But what a bizarre turn that thread took!

I've not seen DA either.

The thread surely didn't encourage me to watch the film.

Posters blatantly poked at GSM, who easily kept her comments within guidelines, that is of course what solicitors do, even if outspoken.

I thought so too, Norah.

There was a lot of provocation of GSM, deliberate I think.

There was indeed. As I said earlier in this thread, I may not always have agreed with her on everything, but she was always logical and reasoned, as well as being very helpful to people on matters of a legal nature.

My DGD has pinched my curling tongs 😀

I bought a hot air brush last week that you can have.

I thought it would blow hot air to dry my hair but it just gets hot.🙁

Sort of curling tongs with whiskers………

Allira Thu 12-Mar-26 12:39:10

If it happened soon after the Green Trouser Suit debacle

And well after Boris being called names (immoral for one, I believe), looking like a sack of potatoes in his suit and accusing him of lying about being ill with Covid, thus making the excellent staff at St Thomas's complicit in the lie.

I binge watched downtown about a year ago, this is how late I was to the partygrin

Oreo Thu 12-Mar-26 08:20:46

I must be the biggest Downton fan ever, but the Battle Of The Curling Tongs on GN somehow passed me by.

Crikey that was a thread and a half. To be honest it looked to me like everyone lost their mind for a while! I was very late to Downtown Abbey so perhaps I don't understand the passion.

😂
Having read the thread that’s what I thought too.

Galaxy Wed 11-Mar-26 22:50:08

Yes that's interesting isn't it.

Doodledog Wed 11-Mar-26 22:45:53

It was a very strange thread, but I agree that context might make a huge difference to understanding of it. If it happened soon after the Green Trouser Suit debacle, I was taking a break from GN at the time, as I found the atmosphere then very stressful. It may be, therefore, that some of the peculiarities of the thread (white socks??) refer to things going on at the time.

If that was why GSM was banned, there must have been something in the water, as whilst it was all very tetchy I have seen a lot worse on here. Or maybe, as Casdon suggests, it was a case of straws and camels' backs. I don't think Matilda May has been seen much since though 🤔

I missed all the Downton Abbey threads sadly.
Otherwise it is “she said, he said”
So trivial in light of all that is going on in the world.

It wasn't exactly politics, was it!!

Casdon Wed 11-Mar-26 21:32:59

I’ve just read it, and GSM had a lot of deleted posts on that thread, not all of which were visible later because somebody else quoted them. As we don’t know what those posts said I’m not clear why MatildaMay is being blamed, given her posts weren’t deleted, and she was being treated rather condescendingly it would seem.
It comes back to whether it is the cumulative effect of a number of deletions which lead to a ban, that is my theory anyway.

Allira Wed 11-Mar-26 21:21:02

If someone told me I was old-fashioned for using curling tongs I'd laugh.
My 14 year old DGD uses them!

Yes, that’s why I can’t get a handle on the personal comments thing, at all.

Because some are ok and some are not ok and I can’t work out the vital difference.

Some actual examples with an explanation as to why would be helpful for me.

I can't work it out either. However if anyone has a go at me and tells me I'm wrong I do pull back into myself. MatildaMay was not one to pull back, it seems.
