That’s money well spent, my mum used to say.

In terms of improving your happiness/ enjoyment/ mental well-being/ quality of life what have you spent money on to best effect?

Holidays, mostly, but sometimes just a small amount of money spent can make a difference.
Last year I bought a lovely coat in the sales for £40.
Or my airfryer, which cost about £45.

My cat once came home from the fields with a rather large rabbit (still alive) and managed to jump through a window at the top with the rabbit still in her mouth! My children and I had to put the cat out, then chase the rabbit - who was terrified round the house to catch it. The cat was banished to the garage for the next few days!!

My hearing aids without which I wouldn't hear the GC who give me such pleasure. It's a bonus that I can remove them (the aids not the GC!) when DH behaves like Victor Meldrew

Before Christmas I bought a pack of five stick on rechargeable under cupboard lights for my kitchen. I’ve always wanted under cupboard lights and feel very excited every time I walk in and they pop on. Grand total of £25 😄

We had the same issue but with rats!
Bought an Only Cat ai cat flap that won’t let them in if carrying prey! Not cheap but money well spent!!! It definitely works!
Whilst we had rats one ate the inside of an american fridge freezer … not a cheap thing to replace!!

My hot tub, now 9 years old, but still used every other day. I do miss it when we're away in the motorhome, which was also money very well spent!

Recently, the tweed jacket I splurged on while on a visit to York the year before last. Made of cloth dyed and woven in a Yorkshire Mill from Yorkshire wool, and beautifully tailored. was. I don’t get excited about much but I had been looking for one for what seemed like a lifetime and there it was. I love wearing it so don’t begrudge the cost which was probably more than I would spend on clothes in a year. And under the collar…..

My friend has that very jacket and looks a million dollars in it, as I am sure you do. I am always envious of it.

Many things over many years, especially as Chocolatelovingran said "money spent on good times with other people". Most recently, it is a £12 make-up light, rechargeaable with USB about once a month (so no cord) from Amazon. I can now see both sides of my face in bright, clear light no matter what time of day or year.
(This kind of thread is why I love Gransnet! smile)

I'm with Jaxjackie on the glasses front.
I would be registered blind if my sight was uncorrectable but, despite my specs costing both arms and both legs I am always so grateful that they enable me to see to do all the crafts I love.
Worth every penny

Our new walk in shower. After 8 years of having a bath that we never used, the shower is a dream.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 15-Apr-26 13:31:26

Not a thing, exactly, but money spent on good times with other people is money well spent, for me.

I am so sorry to have hijacked this perfectly good thread.
It just happens sometimes on GN.

Allira your H has settled in well.
He doesn’t mind the rules, tea brought to bed precisely at 8am.
Preparing a light lunch provided I cook in the evening and he loves the rule my H and I had, a well chilled G&T at exactly 6pm.
How is Molly settling, do you provide Butler services as I did which means howling by the front door for it to be opened while ignoring a perfectly good cat flap in the back door?
Do you want to swap back?

Jakjaxy, where did you get those specs for £ 200? I paid £600 for mine.

It was 2 years ago loopyloo Asda opticians, I’ve used them for a few years now, due a check up this year. I recommend them to everyone and at least two friends are also pleased now.

My cat is on offer for adoption, she has found a never ending source of mice.
We have had one a day, some dead some still alive for about 10 days now.
She has to go.😉

Eh? This is rather like people who get a dog and then decide it doesn't match the colour of the curtains, so the poor thing just HAS to go.

And yes, I know someone who did exactly this. She was a former classmate of mine from way back and moved into the corner bungalow at the end of my street. With a lovely Golden Labrador. Which soon vanished. When new carpets were installed.

She was fairly blasè about the dog and the carpet simply not matching.

(She was a bitch-snob in our schooldays and, obviously, nothing had changed.)

Takes all sorts..........

It’s a joke, mae13 and others who took it seriously 😂.

My dishwasher. A friend said “But why for just one person?”
“I’d have it for half a person” I said😁
Actually with regular family visits it’s worth it.

A private consultation in London for a debilitating, embedded UTI. The NHS are woefully behind in their treatment of recurrent UTI’s
This consultant listened, understood and came up with a treatment plan which, so far has worked smile

Allira Wed 15-Apr-26 12:24:29

Although he's no good at catching mice!

Allira Wed 15-Apr-26 12:23:23

Ah, wouldn't really swap him for anything!!
