Powerful Stick Vacuum - recommendations please

I bought a Shark (I don’t know why) after using Dysons for years. But I wasn’t happy with it. I love the way Dyson picks up dust and grit, not just fluff and hairs. After three months I sold the Shark for a third of what it coast me and bought a new Dyson and I am very happy with it.

Funny everyone seems to like GTech. I hate mine as it doesn’t pick up anything except light fluff. Someone has recommended Electrolux as good and affordable so I’m going to look at those. I love Henry but it’s too heavy.

Oh and by the way Wombat, with a light carpet you can quickly spot if a little stray black creature crawls across your floor!

I have a Polti cordless stick vacuum cleaner from Ideal World. It's brilliant. Lightweight, efficient, easy to empty, quick to recharge.

Two years ago I made a mistake of taking up an offer but. bought the cheaper version which was a mistake as it just doesn’t pick up well especially on an old carpet.
I am now going a similar topic but for a carpet cleaner as I made the same mistake when buying a cheaper version so replies will be much appreciated.

I have a VAX Pace Plus cordless, cost about £100. I’m really pleased with it, seems powerful and battery lasts for a good while.

Anything but a Dyson V10 - worst vac we ever had.

I have a gtech airram which is easy as it's light and on the floor and picks up brilliantly and also a shark bend in the middle which has attachments so you can do sofas and stairs and that picks up really well. Both are cordless and easy to use and I use an elbow crutch as well so I'm not exactly fit.

Watching with interest as my Shark has been a big disappointment, not picking up much of the fluff/cotton that seems determined to embed itself in my not-deep-pile carpet

Halo vacuum cleaner after being a Dyson fan for years. Absolutely brilliant although has bags, but no dirty emptying/cleaning of cylinder. Battery operated and can be left on charge when not in use. My techy son put me on to this make. Took a while to arrive, but worth the wait.

If you decide on a GTech, their Customer Service is superb, I bought one that was an upgrade on my old one as it was beginning to fall apart, I bought the white one and due to arthritis in my wrists I found it very unbalanced and difficult to mnage, after 2 months I reviewed it and the following day they phoned me and asked if I would like to exchange it for something else. I have gone back to the latest version of the green and black one which is very good. It's a K9 stick vacuum which copes with my long haired black cats hair with no problem at all.

I can only use a turbo head vacuum cleaner, if there isn’t this, the suction needed to clean the carpets hurts my back

Bosch every time, even has a light on it and stick bends for under low furniture

I love my Dyson. We have a dog, 2 cats and large light coloured rugs. Our motel vacuum doesn’t get the hair up from the pile as well as the Dyson stick V15. Best vacuum I have owned for a deep clean.

What does possess people who choose a light coloured carpet? You're GOING to tread on it, spill things occasionally...

I needed something lightweight and bought a Hoover HF1 anti-hair wrap stick. Absolutely perfect! It has a turbo setting for those pesky bits of fluff etc that cling to carpets like grim death! It’s easy to empty, too.

Another vote for gtech air ram here. Just replaced one of the original models 20+ years old with air ram 3 plus.They are very light, very manoeuverable with good edge cleaning and on special offer from gtech at the moment. Also it is a British company!

Definitely a SHARK.A bit pricier but are gauranteed a long time.theres a sale now i think on their website,and if you sign up to their website emails you ussually get a big chunk off in offer codes.(can always cancel continuing emails later) when i got a shark vac i couldnt believe how much extra dirt came up after we'd already vacced with a not very old hoover vac.
