Who buys a newspaper?

Interested to know who buys a print copy or digital access to a newspaper. I’ve been relying on free digital access to the BBC and the Guardian but think it’s time I put my hand in my pocket (as if we’re.)

I love the idea of getting a paper delivered but it’s expensive compared to
digital access. But there really is something about reading the print copy of a newspaper.

We haven’t come across any newsagents who deliver papers for years. We buy a daily paper if we are in the village, so not regularly. DH drives to get two Sunday papers, every weekend.

Moi.

Long live The Guardian!

Buy one every day. My morning pleasure is paper and a cuppa and breakfast!

Our local newsagent delivers my paper every day.

We have The Sunday Times. Occasionally o/h will bring back The I. I've recenttly taken up an offer with The Independent, 6 months for a £1.

I used to get The Guardian on Saturdays when it was free at Waitrose but not since. I can’t say I’ve missed it.

Ive neither bought nor read a newspaper for years.

Not for years and years probably about 45 years when I used to have a daily delivery

We have 2 delivered every day. DH used to go to the village shop every morning but that stopped during covid. Ours come from the next but one village - the nearest shop to deliver.

I buy one on the days I go out. I prefer the real thing much as I prefer a proper book to a Kindle.

Once in a while I buy a local Times of Malta just to do the puzzles. It’s so thin now, unlike the old days when we bought one every day and read it from cover to cover and it was packed with so much more.

I read newspapers online but don’t subscribe to any. Most of the news upsets or depresses me to be honest.

We have The New World, Private Eye and Observer on Sunday.

We buy The Times on Saturdays. DH reads it from cover to cover with the supplements so it lasts us all week. The rest of the time we rely on the TV news.

I buy a newspaper if I am passing the newsagent but whereas we used to have one nearly everyday this has dropped to a couple of times a week plus Sunday paper

Aveline Fri 15-May-26 07:25:07

I do get the headlines online of course and watch the TV news but that's pretty superficial. I like to read what going on in more detail and to consider alternative perspectives.

Guardian delivered every day! Waiting now it to arrive.

Macaydia Fri 15-May-26 07:41:07

I used to love reading newspapers but now cant see the print.

BlueBelle Fri 15-May-26 07:45:33

Surely it will die out completely with our generation Can you imagine any of your grandkids buying a newspaper? None of my children even buy one !

J52 Fri 15-May-26 07:47:50

We have The Times every day. DH subscribes and gets vouchers, also an on line version. He pops to the village newsagents every morning, he’s an early riser.
In fact he’s reading it now, I’ve just finished the crossword. Not the cryptic one, it frustrates me having to think about it for most of the day!

Casdon Fri 15-May-26 07:50:17

I still buy the local paper, because I like to know what’s happening where I live, and a paper copy is the only way of finding out what’s on, as the online version only does main stories. I save them up to light the log burner, newspapers serve a good purpose in that.

Grannynannywanny Fri 15-May-26 07:54:21

It must be 15 years since I bought a newspaper. It became an unnecessary expense that I didn’t really miss once I stopped it. I read the news online from various sources.

nanna8 Fri 15-May-26 08:00:53

Digital for The Times and just weekends for a hard copy of The Age’ Very ,very different points of view, different countries, different politics which is how I like it.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 15-May-26 08:04:15

I began buying a newspaper in my teens and once married had one delivered. So I suppose I’ve read a newspaper every day for 60+ years.

I also read and listen to other news sources.

Sitting as I write with tea and newspaper which gets read through breakfast at coffee break and lunch time if I haven’t finished it by then.
