Who buys a newspaper?

Interested to know who buys a print copy or digital access to a newspaper. I’ve been relying on free digital access to the BBC and the Guardian but think it’s time I put my hand in my pocket (as if we’re.)

I love the idea of getting a paper delivered but it’s expensive compared to
digital access. But there really is something about reading the print copy of a newspaper.

Digital Daily Mail every day. Have for years. It also allows me digital access to free digital access to 7 magazines, audio books, podcasts, music etc. I'll pop my head below the parapet now!!

We buy a paper on Saturdays to have the tv magazine for the following week and I like to do the puzzles. The rest of the week we just read the news online

I love the weekend papers and magazines. I read them and complete the puzzles for hours. It is definitely NOT the guardian.

I only get the local weekly paper which is useful to see what's on and as a bonus it has a pull out puzzle section.

So sorry ChocolateBiscuit, loosing a baby must be really awful. I almost know how you must have felt as I read all about my mother’s suicide on the front page of the local when I travelled back to work. Can still see it now 60 years later.

We only get the papers on a Sunday now . That’s enough for us mostly during the week we tend to walk to the local station and pick up the free metro paper or read it online .

I have a digital subscription to the ‘i’ which is at a reduced rate (not quite sure when that will finish) and find that is enough along with TV News and the occasional link via Facebook to Guardian articles. We do the puzzles in the online ‘i’ every morning and enjoy the routine and the (slight!) challenge of the easy crossword.

I get 2 papers delivered every day - much prefer reading the actual paper to the digital stuff. But I'm a news junkie - and I slowly devour every page of the papers moreorless every day (and do the puzzles of course!). I just hope they all get properly re-cycled.............

Me, on a Sunday because I like to do the puzzles with a coffee

Buy a weekend copy of the paper with all it's extras and read 2 on line daily one of which I subscribe to and another I read for free. Also buy the weekly local paper to find out what if anything is going on locally.

I buy The Times on Saturday, plenty of news from the week, television for the week ahead, magazine, sports section, def value for money

I'm an avid reader but never got into papers.I like the crosswords though. DH used to get one every day but rarely opened it, so about 20 years ago we stopped.

Nicksmrs46 Sun 17-May-26 16:02:10

We get one most days as I like doing the crosswords and puzzles , very rarely browse the contents though !

SueLindsey Sun 17-May-26 16:05:47

I buy the I every Mon - Friday, The Guardian on Saurdays and the Sunday Times. I do love newspapers and would buy The Guardian every day if I was richer!

grannyro Sun 17-May-26 16:09:26

I pick up a free copy of the Metro Monday to Friday. Can't be bothered reading news on line.

Willow3 Sun 17-May-26 16:17:21

My DH walks round the corner shop every morning for 2 papers The Mail and The Sun. We have a subscription for The Mail so its half price.

pen50 Sun 17-May-26 16:32:20

DH buys the FT on Saturday but otherwise we're digital only with subs to the DT and the Times. We also get print magazines: New Scientist, Speccie, Private Eye, WSC.

poochwool Sun 17-May-26 16:37:49

I read a digital paper every day, for free. Log on to the Pressreader app with your library card and you have free access to so many. I've not paid for one for many years.

Imarocker Sun 17-May-26 16:56:29

We finally gave in and have only a digital subscription to The Times. It doesn’t feel the same but it was so expensive and we had so much paper to recycle

Didolizzy Sun 17-May-26 17:19:14

Every day including the weekend edition of the i newspaper. Purely for the crossword and the other puzzles. Hubby and me do them together over a coffee at various venues. Enjoy it now both retired.

StoneofDestiny Sun 17-May-26 17:23:39

The paper copies of the Guardian and Observer at the weekend. Otherwise it’s on line.

Rosiebee Sun 17-May-26 17:25:15

We have a digital subscription with the Telegraph and an extra one for their puzzles. On Saturdays though I treat myself to the paper edition. It keeps me going all week.

Wyllow3 Sun 17-May-26 17:29:50

Online now. Shell out for the Guardian to keep it going for all as a freebie.

Radio 4 news is excellent, better than TV. I do like the 5pm R4 news/current affairs - it has good news stories too, and little honour moments as well as hard news and the time for some depth..

Wyllow3 Sun 17-May-26 17:30:31

little humourous moments not honour.

fluttERBY123 Sun 17-May-26 17:37:53

We get vouchers and papers delivered every day.
