Keeping Dementia Sufferer Occupied

I support my elderly Aunt. She has Alzheimers but still lives at home with carers coming in to help with meals, personal care etc.
She does have some groups she attends in the week and I take her out evey week too, but the rest of the time she is at home alone with nothing to do. I think she gets bored and then starts constantly fiddling with things in the house which causes problems with things being turned off, or getting lost or broken.
I want to keep her occupied, but she can no longer follow TV programmes very well, she can't follow books, can't knit anymore, and can't do puzzle books or jigsaws any more. Trying any of these just makes her frustrated and upset.
Any ideas on what else I could put in place to keep her interested and out of trouble?

My father used to love to fold a basket of laundered towels and linens. Ever so neatly.

There are some good ideas here. With regard to tv programmes anything that is visual . My Dad loved Last of the Summer Wine, Mr Bean good to. Also something he enjoyed looking at was a book about the rain forest which had lovely colorful photos.

Does she have a "dementia radio"

This one is good - and can have a memory stick of "favourites" inside too.

Sorry for long link!

Some great and unusual suggestions on here.

AmberGran I particularly loved your idea of a box containing lots of things of particular interest to your dad.

My mum loved her robotic cat. It wasn't cheap, but it was a joy for her.

It’s a beautiful site and Heather is a beautiful person. Our Mums were very alike - close in age, both at similar stage of dementia, both very creative ladies and both still liked to be occupied. My Mum passed away slightly before Heather’s Mum and they sent me a lovely handmade card. We stay in touch.
