Hey all,
I'm new here. My daughter just had a baby 3 weeks ago, and her husband took off 3 weeks, and now he's back at work. I went to visit, and she's asking for advice to get baby to sleep. I suggested letting baby nurse then when she falls asleep, just scoot away and get your own shut-eye. Oh noooo, she says...Sharing a bed is a no-no. I get it. Sort of. But I raised 3 of my own and slept (in the early weeks) with all 3. Sigh. Any advice from grans who "did it the old way" but the old way is now a no-no?

New born babies take at least six to eight weeks to fall into a regular day/night routine. In the meantime its best to surround them with noise and lots of cuddles. They will sleep but a lot of it is daytime sleeping hence the sleep when baby sleeps advice. There's a very useful weird device that replicates a mother's holding and patting that might help. Babies are all different my first was always grizzling and whining up to three months old my second slept all day and cried all night for 4-6 weeks. My third was colicky for 3 months but only bewtween the hours of 5pm to around 8pm.
