This morning I had to say goodbye to my wonderful DH who has battled heart failure and bladder cancer so very bravely. When he developed sepsis we knew the best thing was to bring him home from hospital so he could be at peace with us and his beloved JR Peggy at his side.

We couldn't have achieved this without Hospice at Home who went above and beyond to support us and make sure his final two weeks were spent with comfort and love.

I now have to come to terms with it all. It's not that I wasn't expecting it and I'm relieved his suffering is over but s many of you already know, it's going to be tough.

My heartfelt sorrow to read your sad news Merlot. Although we may think we are prepared, we never are when this dreadful day happens. For the sake of you and your DH I am pleased to hear his final days were at home with you and his darling Peggy. I wish you and your family every strength for the days ahead.
I noticed you were quiet recently and have known you since the day I joined GN many years ago. Please remember Merlot, you have many friends here whenever you needs us. ?

Thank you so much everyone for your comforting messages. I really should be in bed as I haven't had more than three or four hours sleep every night for about three weeks but my head is still buzzing.

I am getting lots of help from family and friends despite Covid restrictions. Thank goodness for my support bubble and the internet.

I have been preparing myself for this for about three years. DH was so tough he bounced back every time he was taken ill resulting in yet another devastating diagnosis but today he finally used up his ninth life.

I posted because I knew the lovely friends I have made on Gransnet (old and new) would respond in the way they always do. You are all such kind and caring people.

Thank You xx

Dear Merlot, I’ve only just seen this and I’m so very sorry. You and DH have been through so much together & supported each other especially over the last few years. Your little anecdotes made MrMerlot a personality on these threads, as well as you.
xx
