This morning I had to say goodbye to my wonderful DH who has battled heart failure and bladder cancer so very bravely. When he developed sepsis we knew the best thing was to bring him home from hospital so he could be at peace with us and his beloved JR Peggy at his side.

We couldn't have achieved this without Hospice at Home who went above and beyond to support us and make sure his final two weeks were spent with comfort and love.

I now have to come to terms with it all. It's not that I wasn't expecting it and I'm relieved his suffering is over but s many of you already know, it's going to be tough.

Merlot my thoughts are with you today.
You have had very sad times these past few years, rest and be kind to yourself; know that we are here to support you. X

merlotgran, just take things day by day and please don't put yourself under extra pressure to 'come to terms with' (as you say), cope well etc.

Even when expected, it's a tremendous shock to the system. We tend to expect far too much of ourselves as we adjust to a new identity and different world - so do take care and look after yourself really well!

So sorry to read your news just now.
You have lost your life partner and nothing can replace him.

Accept all the help you are offered but don't feel you need to do everything at once. Listen to advice but don't necessarily take it.

I lost my DH 3 months ago and it sounds very similar.
Like you DH was at home surrounded by family. This continues to be a comfort.
GN has been a constant source of help and support, and light relief!

Sending you loving thoughts. xx

My deepest sympathy to you, merlot. Be gentle with yourself and lean on your friends and family when you need to. There will be dark days ahead but, gradually, the light will return and when things seem too bleak to bear, support can come from unexpected sources.
May the memories of the love you shared sustain you through the days ahead. (((Hugs)))

I’m so sorry to read of your loss Merlogran and send you my deepest condolences. I read your post last night and tried to reply then but my iPad was sticking and wouldn’t send the message. I’m so glad that you have your family nearby to offer you their support and love and pleased that you were able to have your DH at home with you. I hope that will bring you comfort in the coming weeks and months.
Take care ?
