Our latest Gransnet guest blogger is Amanda from The Women's Room. Her post - What not to wear takes a look at fashion trends best avoided at all costs by those of us who are now a little older and wiser.

Do you agree with her list? And what would you add to it?

Nonu - what is it with you and Anna? Are you perhaps 'special friends'? grin

Nonu Fri 10-May-13 20:51:19

My daughter and I have two mantras: just because they make it in your size it doesn't mean you can wear it and never wear anything the same colour as your forehead.
I'm afraid I do wear jeggings but ALWAYS with a top that covers my bottom

puff sleeves are such a nono.

Nonu Fri 28-Mar-14 17:02:25

Isn't it just, Nonu? So many dormant threads surfacing at the moment.

Nonu Fri 28-Mar-14 17:06:11

Wonder Why?

ninathenana Fri 28-Mar-14 18:27:12

Being on the short side and no doubt in the next ten years will start growing smaller like my mother of 85 who used to be my height but is now 6" smaller, I have learned that if you wear the same pattern or colour full length instead of separates it helps you look less Round and more Tall (well sort of !) So i thought I would wear more frocks - especially as i can sew those . But the thing that bugs me is not being able to find comfy tights- GRrrrrrr ! when I was a size 10 I couldn`t see why other women moaned about how uncomfy tights are and preferred to wear trousers, but now i understand ! I suppose i ought to write a letter to Marks and Sparks asking them if they have considered that the sales of their pretty frocks would go up if they also sold comfy tights to fit ladies who are not 24" (haha) round the middle. I still have the same length legs but not the waist , have been buying large size tights and folding the excess length under my feet ! how daft is that ?! And I am usually size 12 or 14 or even 16 depending which shop ( don`t care about the number , just the fit )

Ladies with large bosoms that have dropped with age should not go about in public in tops with shoestring straps - especially if they have bingo wings - there's no dignity in it; ageing flesh is unattractive; my son would say, "Put it away Mrs."

suebailey1 Tue 10-Jun-14 10:56:17

Jaxie I do I agree - nothing so becomes a woman as a properly supportive bra. Cant stand seeing a large wobbly mass hovering down by the waistline.

rosesarered Tue 10-Jun-14 11:22:09

Shudder! All vest tops worn alone by large women should be banned. If covered by roomy shirt top, then that's fine.Ghastly feet shouldn't be on show either, or horny toenails and rough skin heels. No rolls of fat should show. No knees either. No wrinkled cleavage. It's all obvious stuff isn't it?

So,what age do we start to wear old age clothes. There are clothes I would not wear that are too young, and there are more clothes I would not wear that are too old.I am 65 I like pretty colourful clothes,I neither wear too short or too long.Slim I am not, colour makes me happy.

annodomini Thu 12-Jun-14 19:11:09

OK rosesarered, I surrender. I will go out and find a burkha tomorrow. grin

AmMaz Thu 19-Jun-14 10:18:12

I wanna know what the problem is with peplums? Seriously. Please spell it out so's I know. Is it to do with size? I'm a size 8 - is that why I think it looks OK or is there some other problem with peplums that I am missing and actually will be making me look ridiculous? Please enlighten me asap!

Gagagran Thu 19-Jun-14 10:21:28

Just make sure the burkha is not too colourful anno. Obviously you need to merge into the shadows! grin

Tegan Thu 19-Jun-14 10:32:53

I've probably said this before on this thread but no time to check; I love peplums..my favourite Biba dress from when I was young had a peplum and I've been wanting a dress like it ever since. I think they're especially good if you're pear shaped like me.

GillT57 Thu 19-Jun-14 10:43:19

Having caught a sideways glance at myself in the new mirror in the brand new bathroom I think it is a burkha for me. Either that or remove my glasses before I go into the bathroom.
