'Me Before You' by Jojo Moyes...best book I've read in ages. Made me laugh &
made me cry.

Maniac - I am still reading 'The Lacuna' and at last I am enjoying it. It is a different style of book for me but the historical content is well worth it.

Sorry Ganja, you must have mixed me up with someone else, I haven`t ever read that book.
I`ve just started on Call the Midwife, I think I`m going to love it.

If I remember rightly, Adrian had become the lover of Veronica's mother. She was the mother of the birth defect child, so Veronica was sister to the boy in the pub/shop.

I'm not sure why seeing Tony, upsets the boy. Mystery to me.

Might have to re-read it. Or parts anyway.

Ariadne I hope you enjoy Millions Like Us. Having had a weekend of galleries with a friend - David Hockney at RA on Sat and then Grayson Perry at BM yesterday , I've had a day in today and have only three chapters to go. I have found it completely engrossing and very moving. Would also strongly recommend both galleries. Each artist made me smile in their different ways but I won't say more as this is a book thread.

I read The Sense of an Ending ages ago and can't remember a thing about it! Must re-read it - I suppose...

I`m loving Call the Midwife, it brings back many memories of how things were when I had my 5, even though it was a little later, between `63 and `71.

Annobel I shouldn't bother. Far more enjoyable books out there!

I've just started Call the Midwife and enjoying it. I saw a bit of it on television but much prefer the book [I seem to keep saying this].
I've also just finished Bleed for Me by Michael Robotham - a complete contrast! It's a murder mystery, although it calls itself a thriller, and rather unpleasant by the occasional description but not overly so - just works the imagination instead of spelling out the nasty bits. Certainly not an Agatha Christie but a good read.

I have just got it on my Kindle,am loving the television series.

I like Micheal Robotham, but haven`t read that one.

Oh! I have just finished "The Fault in our Stars" by John Green - recommended by DGD1 (15 and very, very literate) It is a first person story, told by, and about, teenagers with life limiting cancer. It is illuminating, emotional and honest, and I really liked it. As a "survivor" one of the phrases I keep is "Survivors live with uncertainty. We live knowing."

I was very moved. It is not really a teenage book in terms of style, language and story. I do recommend it.

Just finished 'Her last scream' by J A Kerley its about a serial killer who targets vulnerable women who are part of a secret network of crisis centres who permanently relocate women in serious danger from domestic abuse. Thought it was really good and will look out for more of his books.

Now reading 'Blue Monday' by Nicci French. Looks good so far.

I`ve just finished Call the Midwife, and now can`t wait to get the other 2 books in the trilogy, Shadows of the Workhouse, and Farewell to the East End. I was pleased to see how much the TV series is true to the book, just a few slight changes. I was wondering where Joe Collett was, till I remembered that someone said he was in the second book.
I`m just about to start Creep, a first book by Jennifer Hillier. A university psychology professor ends a 3 month affair with one of her students when she gets engaged, then lots of violent stuff begins to happen. Looking forward to reading it.

I've just finished 'A Tiny Bit Marvellous' by Dawn French. It's a story about a family, told variously by different family members in the first person. I really enjoyed this book, very easy to read, quite funny and also thought provoking. With some great cake recipes too!

Hi Zenella welcome to GN I'm sure you will find plenty to chat about here, the problem will be to find time to do other things! I've just started to read Left Neglected by Lisa Genova, leant to me by a friend. It's about a young woman with a high flying career and a family and the consequences of accident on her chaotic life. Can't tell you any more as I have only read two chapters so far. She has also written Still Alice which is about a 50 year old who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Anyone else read either of these?

I'm reading The Full Cupboard of Life by Alexander McCall Smith. Finding it a bit slow. Not exactly a page turner.

Hi Libradi, re Creep. The first few chapters are a titchy bit slow, mainly about her sexual tendencies, but it`s bucked up a bit now, getting more interesting.
