What are you reading at the moment

I have just finished "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes. Expected a chick lit and was pleasantly surprised as it was much more than that. I couldn't put it out down except, (spoiler alert ,so look away now,) to reach for the Kleenex.

I loved this book, I have now read another one by this author and also wept at that as well.

I am reading 'A Train in Winter' A story of Resistance, Friendship & Survival'. by Caroline Moorehead. It is an incredible journey, very sad & very brutal but the main thing is the strenghth of the women's friendship & support that brings a few of them to survive the most horrendous conditions. It makes me think how lucky we are to be alive now & not involved in war.

The Game of Thrones. Fantasy. Very violent.

It's violent - have just got as far as what happens to the Targaryen pretender king at the hands of the 'barbarian' to whom he sold his sister in the hope of getting a Dothraki army to regain his throne. Don't even think about it. The author has got a very wide-ranging imagination. I can't watch very graphic films or TV, but so long as it's between the pages of a book, I can cope with it then and it doesn't give me nightmares.

I love the Game of Thrones series but I've got to say that the tv series was too gruesome in places. As you say reading it isn't so bad.

I've just finished reading A BAND OF STEEL by Rosie Goodwin.

Set in the Chanel Islands, it's about a Jewish girl and her family during the war and how she falls in love with a German soldier ! Fantastic story all the way through and makes you want to read right up to the last page, because every page is interesting. Best book ever !

I have just finished "The Last Letter from your Lover" by JoJo Moyes and was fascinated by it. Well crafted, immensely readable and with a plot that leads the reader on in suspense. Loved it!

Just finished Yes Sister, No Sister, by Jennifer Craig, the story of her nurse`s training in the 1950s, very reminiscent of Call the Midwife, but interesting and enjoyable. Am now reading The Affair, another Jack Reacher story by Lee Child. As I`ve said before, I`m a little in love with Jack Reacher!

Just read Me before You by Jojo Moyles which was thought provoking - about a young man who has an accident that leaves him a paraplegic.

Well Londoner what a good tip for a book for me. This is my father's family history. I went to Guernsey as a 16 yr old, without my parents and the families I was supposed to meet wouldn't speak to me because of fraternisation during the war.
As to falling in love with a German I did that myself!
I look forward to reading it.

Am in the midst of Caitlin Moran's "How to be a Woman" - a sort of "Female Eunuch" for a new generation but with way more laughs. No, make that just "laughs" as I don't recall any in Greer's book. CM makes me LOL. At the same time she makes serious points which are food for thought.

I'm reading Dodger by Terry Pratchett. I'm a fan but not too sure about this one. The dog's name is hilarious though!

Ah Crimson, I got A Christmas Carol for Christmas when I was 11, and read it from cover to cover several times, despite being scared witless by a drawing of Marley`s face on the door knocker! Never read it again since then though, maybe I should.
I`m now reading Seizure, by Kathy Reichs. It`s part of a series aimed at teenagers, about Temperance Brennan`s great niece Tory Brennan and her friends. I bought the first one, Virals, in error, not realising it was meant for a younger generation, but quite enjoyed it, so am trying another. They`re a sort of cross between The Famous Five and TV series The Champions, there`s even a dog!

I have a copy of A Christmas Carol which my parents gave me for Chrismas when I was ten. As my bookworm GD is now ten, I am going to pass it on to her this year.
I have almost finished Bringing up the Bodies. It's a little bit frustrating now as I know how it's going to end but I feel I have to follow the machinations of Thomas Cromwell to their conclusion.

Anno, I think I must get Bring up the Bodies now, I wouldn`t normally consider it, but it`s cropped up twice tonight in quiz programmes, so I think it`s maybe an omen!
