What are you reading at the moment, part2

In the queue in Tesco yesterday the lady behind me was buying a copy of 50 Shades, and she must have been at least 80! She was with her OH too (though possibly he didn't know what it was about . Or maybe he did...)

She must still be searching for her inner goddess!

I have just finished the notorious 50 shades of grey - not impressed! Shall return to Angela's Ashes

Just finished No One Left to Tell, by Karen Rose, a cracker of a read! Also recently read Perfect People, by Peter James, different style for him, but very good. Am now just starting Sea of Poppies, by Amitav Ghosh, never read him before, not sure what I`ll make of this one yet.

I`m now reading Sea of Poppies, by Amitav Ghosh, a completely new genre of reading material for me. Wasn`t too sure about it at first, but now I find myself not wanting to leave it till I find out what happens to them all next. After this, my next book will be River of Smoke, by the same author.

After reaching the halfway point in River of Smoke, I`m beginning to see what you meant Annobel. How did YOU get on with it? I`m going to persevere with it,, but not enjoying it like the first one. Don`t know if I`ll bother with the third one when it`s out.

Just finished "The Darling Girls" by Emma Burstall - an Amazon cheapie - and really enjoyed it!

Laurie Graham's new book A Humble Companion - her books are great fun, she wrote a spoof on the Kennedy family and one on the Duchess of Windsor. I've been given one of my favourite gifts a book token. So I'm going to buy Anne de Courcey's new book The Fishing Fleet about spinsters being sent out to India during the Raj to obtain husbands,

daughter is reading 50 shades of grey and I will borrow it when shes finished as I want to see what all the fuss is about lol

Thanks dorset I'd read a review of The Fishing Fleet, but your post reminded me about it so I've just downloaded it onto my kindle!

Just finished the new Peter James "Not Dead Yet". I think he's running out of ideas very implausible plot not up his usual high standard. For anyone who is a devotee of his Roy Grace character, he has revealed so much now about ex wife Sandy, that I think he will have to bring this aspect of the story to a head in the next book in some sort of showdown between her and Roy.

baNANA, have you read Peter James`s Perfect People? Not a Roy Grace story, and different to his norm, but I liked it.
Just coming towards the end of River of Smoke, haven`t really enjoyed it though.

No I haven't numberplease, but will look out for it.

number - I too was disappointed in River of Smoke, having enjoyed Sea of Poppies. I think I liked it better towards the end when I finally understood who was who. It also gave me an understanding of the reasons for the opium wars which I probably wouldn't have bothered to research otherwise.
I keep seeing women reading Fifty Shades - on stations, on trains, by the pool. And those are the ones with the book. Who knows what's on Kindles and tablets!

Just read Night Waking by Sarah Moss - I really cannot remember when I enjoyed a book as much. Highly recommended.

I'm in the middle of Night Waking at the moment and really feel for her - I didn't get a full night's sleep until DS2 was four. And there's an intriguing situation developing too. Can hardly put it down - except that I'm trying to watch gymnastics and knit too. Multi-tasking can go too far.

Perfect People by Peter James is a "must read" this summer. It has kept me awake for two nights and apart from being a page-turner it offers a lot of food for thought. The ending is brilliant.

I enjoyed Perfect People as well, it was different to anything else of Peter Jmes that I`ve read.

I'm reading The Return by Victoria Hislop, after reading and enjoying her other two books, The Island and The Thread. I started reading before the Olympics began, but now I can't read and watch TV at the same time. It may take me a while to finish this one.

I've just finished 'When God was a rabbit', it's a great story of growing up in the 70's, just really well written and touching.

I'm enjoying The Litigators by John Grisham. 'Publishers Weekly' describes it as 'Entertaining...bitingly farcical'...the characters are superb.

I`ve just started Suite Francaise, by Irene Nemirovsky. It`s an account of what it was like living in France at the time that the Germans invaded, in 1941. It was part of a two part story, but as the author died in Auschwitz in 1942, she didn`t live to see them put together and published. It`s not grabbing me so far, but I`m not very far into it yet.
