It is earlyish on a summer's evening (say 7.30pm) & we are at my static caravan by the sea. The heat of the day is receding & the light is starting to fade.
In the second bedroom are 2 freshly showered children, already in their PJs, waiting for a bedtime story, which they have agreed without argument. My chores are done & in the fridge awaits a delicious light supper & a perfectly chilled bottle of wine.
The story is enjoyed by all, kisses exchanged & they settle for the night immediately, exhausted by their day of seaside fun.
YEAH, RIGHT, IN MY DREAMS!
In reality it's more likely to be 8.00pm & they will not have had a shower.
Their bedroom will be hotter than the hottest thing you can think of & there will be a variety of reasons for not having the window open. One (3yrs) may settle fairly quickly but the 5yr old will find numerous reasons over the next hour or so to come out of their room to share some perceived problem.
Eventually all will go quiet, can she possibly be asleep? Dare I go & check? No!
Yes, they are asleep & I can finally settle down for an hour or so with my book. I shall need an early night of course as we shall be up bright and early tomo
