Over the festive season we love nothing more than curling up with a good book and a box of mince pie or two. And this year there are some VERY good books indeed. So we asked all the publishers we work with to nominate one of their favourite reads to enjoy this Christmas. And here they all are in one handy list.
Better still - one lucky gransnetter can win the ENTIRE lot. Yup - that's every book featured on the page. Worth more than £500. In our book (no pun intended) that's a pretty fine haul at any time of year - and absolutely perfect for Christmas.
We just want to know where you like reading. Your answers will be put into the very large hat and a draw (made at random) will take place at midday on Weds 10 December - so the winner will receive their prize in plenty of time for the big day. All the details on the page
I love to read anywhere! I always have a book with me - waiting for the bus/tube, at the hospital or doctors, one upstairs and one downstairs - every spare minute I just love to read. But I think my favourite place to read is tucked up in bed.
I 've always been a bookworm and I love curling up in a chair by the roaring open fire with a cup of tea, a few biscuits and a good book. I also love snuggling up in bed with a new book too!
Anywhere. All my coats, jackets, bags and so forth contain copious amounts of reading material so I am never without a book. One of my favourite possessions is a bag from Manchester library which bears the slogan - Caution! May contain books.
I loved reading on the train! 20 minutes between the busy early morning routine of rushing round getting the kids and myself ready for our respective schools and being at work, then escaping into a book for the relaxing 20 minutes going home before picking up from the child minder and the after-school family life chaos!
On the few hot sunny days we have each year I love to read in the garden, not feeling guilty about all the things I should be doing around the house. I know the dust will still be there when it starts to rain!
I like to read everywhere and anywhere, I always carry a book with me in my handbag or rucksack just in case I have to wait for something or somebody. However my very favourite place is in a very old high back camping chair under the gazebo at the bottom of the garden. Obviously it has to be a warm day but I can read undisturbed for hours with no distractions, bliss.
In bed snuggled up with my husband bouncing words off each other that we don't know or are unsure the meaning of and reading out loud sentences/passages that we want to share. Reading to me is about sharing the joy of words whether it's the author sharing their words with me or me sharing their words with others.
