My favourite book is Sticky Wicket by Barry Norman. It combines two of my biggest interest, cricket and film & TV, into one book and is a great laugh from start to finish.
Have read many times, particularly when I need cheering up.

Capital by John Lanchester: social commentary that makes you think about the way UK lives are currently lived. However the characters' mind sets differ from the reader's one learns from them.

I read and loved Brooklyn long before the film , I have such pictures in my head that I am afraid to go to see the film !

Have just tidied up my entry - too many spaces.

Lovely thread reminding me of many books I have enjoyed. There are also a number of books I have not come across and sound interesting so I am off to kindle to see if they are available. That should sort out my winter reading.

The Light Between the Oceans by M L Steadman

Hauntingly beautiful novel about choices and living with the subsequent consequences. Sometimes good people make bad choices but it does not determine who they are.

I LOVE Misery by Stephen King. I was never really into reading before but this book changed it all. I now adore reading and Steven King.

Frankie by Domini Highsmith is a moving story of a neglected child, starved of his mother's love. You will want to rescue Frankie from his torment, hug him and give him a happy home.

Testament of Youth - Vera Brittain, it's a compelling history of how a generation was changed forever by war and the reason I am a pacifist. And if I can cheat as there is a trilogy of Testaments, Testament of Friendship and Testament of Experience are excellent as well

I love the Song of Fire and Ice series by George R R Martin. The first Game of Thrones is still my favourite.

The Inheritors by William Golding - the only novel to make me think like a Neanderthal!

Recently the book I have enjoyed most was The a Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.

Very difficult to chose one favourite. But a book I can always go back to & have a giggle is Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. Wonderful characters, surrealism, and then there is "something nasty in the woodshed". Brilliant!

I have just re-read 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee and it is still an engrossing, fascinating book.

The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly, it's a real page turner and you're drawn into Fionas world from the very 1st page.

Harry Potter! Nothing like a bit of escapism that harry Potter can give you!

I love 'Me Before You' by Jo JO Moyes. It is beautifully written and is a wonderful story.

I have many well loved authors and books. So many that it is too hard to choose a favourite, so I have to say that whatever book I'm reading, at that time it is my favourite.

My favourite book at the moment is Me Before you by JoJo Moyes. What a book and nothing like I have read before. Very thought provoking!

Roads Ahead edited by Catherine o'Flynn a collection of short stories by new talents. I particularly enjoy 'Six of the best' by Iain Grant. Based around Birmingham in the 70s, its a stark reality of life in council estates, with a wicked twist at the end.

"Orange is the new black" - How sure are you that you will never get behind bars?

The Stand by Stephen King. An epic journey of a book. How he brings the strands of a story together and always has a great ending is a great skill.

Myrrhanda Sun 22-Nov-15 20:42:30

The Hitch Hikers' Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams. Such an original idea and absolutely hilarious. Even though we first read it many years go my friends and I still go around quoting it today!

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I read it in English class at school and just fell in love with it. It's full of darkness and redemption. Brilliant.
